Paper Bag Pants ::: The Perfect Summer Work Wear

When I went to Lagos, I was very strategic in the types of pieces I brought with me. I wanted pieces that I could wear stylishly and are practical for the heat as it is always very hot in Nigeria….

This pants / trouser was one of the pieces I brought with me and I wore it twice during my stay. One time to a meeting on a project we were working on with open toe sandals and the other time, to run errands. Today, I am styling this pants for work….

2 WAYS TO STYLE A MIDI DRESS + IT’S MADE TO MEASURE

The last time I did a wedding guest look book was the one I shared HERE. When I got this fabric, the first thing that came to mind for me was to create another look for a wedding guest. The fabric was originally for my girlfriend’s wedding. Even though I couldn’t attend, my portion of the fabric was kept for me – this is kind of tradition whereby all the bride’s friends wear some sort of “uniform” called aso-ebi traditionally. When I received my fabric, I gave my tailor specifications of what I wanted and here we are.

WHAT IS MONOCHROME & 7 WAYS TO WEAR MONOCHROME

I know there is this notion that a monochromatic look is only black and white. In fact, I can promise you that if you key in monochrome into Google, a lot of images that is black and white will be fed to you. While monochrome can be said to be a minimal look featuring black and white, it can also mean a single colour palette, hence the word “mono” which means SINGLE or a look with limited colours and hues.

MUSTARD – AN ALTERNATIVE TO YELLOW & 5 WAYS TO STYLE MUSTARD

Mustard is not quiet yellow, it is however a shade of yellow that is dull or dark. It resembles culinary mustard. So, mustard is the colour of the sauce you get on your favourite street or kiosk hot dog.

Mustard is the perfect alternative to yellow for people who don’t like to wear yellow because it is too bright. Because mustard is a darker shade of yellow, it suits all skin tone. In fact, I can say that you do not need to wear tan before you wear mustard.

DARE TO DREAM BIG & BELIEVE (Motivation for Monday)

Any writer can relate to this: I started writing this text for an Instagram post on Sunday morning and the few lines I wrote reads thus:

“We finished the “Use What You Have – Gifted for a Purpose Masterclass” at about 9.50pm on Saturday night and I am grateful for everyone who joined us. This opened my eyes to what it means to BELIEVE. Maybe I will create a blog to talk more on this…
We can grow on our journeys  and discover the hidden potential that we have but if we don’t BELIEVE, it is possible to settle for the less than who we have been called to be.
I went into creating and running the course with the mindset that come what may, that even if it is one person that shows up, I will run the classes.
Night after night, many joined us live. Their testimonials made me realise that all I needed to do was my bit which is to create the course and God will do his bit which is to connect me with the right people via social media.

Will you dare to BELIEVE and do what God has put in your heart? There are people out there who needs what you know. Will you dare to believe and put those things out?”

As I walked to the very front to receive my award on graduation day, I knew all eyes were on me. That sounds boastful BUT truly that was the case. I am a 5 ft 11 – “thin” woman and with my yellow dress, I wore a 5 inches heels which made me 6ft + tall. I was nothing short of a super model…..

Okay, as soon as the occasion (graduation ceremony) was over, one of my Lecturers, a former Buyer with Burberry came to me and said, “MJ, everyone was looking at you and talking about you. You looked amazing in that YELLOW dress. You looked so tall and stunning, like a Super model”….

I smiled and said, I knew that. We got talking and I told her WHY I choose the dress. Today, I want to share with you why I wore this old dress and some styling TIPS for you….

THE THINGS I HAVE NOW (Motivation for Monday)

I believe I can’t be the only one who aspires to be more. In case you don’t understand, here’s what I mean: so many times, I pray for some things, hope for some, wish for some BUT I also know that for me to have them, no matter how much I pray, I have to WORK for the things I want before I have them.

Jim Rohn, a faith based motivational speaker always said: “For you to have more, you have to become more”. If I may, this simply means, what price are you willing to pay for what you want? Today on motivation for Monday, I want to encourage you on what I call, “the things I have now”…….

CHALLENGES MEAN GROWTH (Motivation for Monday)

In a recent research done by Forbes, a lot of people came out to say, the word “problem” scares them. I believe that was so because the word itself is described with synonyms like complications, trouble, difficult situations etc. That sounds scary right? However, in the same research, many say the word Challenge seem like one that could embrace because you can describe the word challenge with synonyms like summon, dare, etc.

Today, my first encouragement to you would be to see every difficult situation you may be going through as a challenge and not a problem. Personally, I see a challenge as an opportunity to dare to do something new and an opportunity to grow.

And guess what, many big organisations has now adopted the word challenge instead of problems.  Today on Motivation for Monday, I bring you, Challenge Means Growth….

Think of a formal wear for a man, you think of suits, right? When it comes to the woman, dresses, skirts, fitted shirts and pants + blazer could be regarded to as formal depending on how they are worn. Now, the woman can wear the pants-suits. Classics never go out of style, they live forever. If you want to look classy, modern, polished and sophisticated, classy pieces is way to go. Today, with this look, I bring a brand new classic chic look book with a twist. Let’s check it out….

HIGH END OR DESIGNER SHOES, ARE THEY REALLY WORTH IT?

When it comes to fashion, a lot of times, you get what you pay for. Other times, you do not get the value of the money you pay. In the latter, it means you only paid for the brand name and not the quality. A lot of people would do anything to put on the brand irrespective of the quality. For me, irrespective of the brand or the price of the product, the quality matters to me especially if I am paying a lot for it. In this post, I will share with you my take on whether designer shoes are worth it or not.

SINGLE PLEAT SKIRT, GOLD ACCENT & FISH NET TIGHTS

When it comes to formal work wear, there are limitations to what we can do because of the dress code rules we have to abide by or with. However, “twerking” what we wear to work in an unexpected way can add some fun and creativity to our looks. This is what I mean……..in all honesty, while pantyhose / tights are tagged a “requirement” in some professional scene or setting, wearing fish net tights is not necessarily professional to work. Am I wrong?
