Looking your best you has never been about what is in and what is out. For e.g right now, everything oversized sleeves are in at the moment. The fact that they are trending does not mean they suit every body type/shape, every age or every life style.
Looking great is about what works best for you, it’s that easy!
Whether your own journey is about changing your life style or you are progressing in the next stage of your career, all you need to do is to create a style that defines who you really are. When you know who you are, others can easily tell who you are when they see you.
Style is simply an art that sums up who we are. It isn’t necessarily about beauty, it is been original and been distinctive.
Style can be learnt and can also be developed over time so forget the saying ; is either you’ve got it or you don’t. We all get what we want if we truly chase after them, if you really want to be stylish, it is a journey you can’t rush, so be patient.
Some of the best ways to start dressing well is to:
1, know your body type : your body type is simply the way you have been proportioned. For e.g Beyonce is proportioned an hourglass woman. This simply means she has shoulders which measures the same as her hips and her waist is super tiny. In other words, she looks like a figure eight.
Not all of us are built that way but all of us can look well only if we embrace our own bodies. My guide on how to measure your body type should help you discover your own body type. Check it here.
2, Colours that work for you : knowing your skin tone is essential to determine what colours work for you. Is either you are warm or you are cool. I shared tips here on how to instantly determine your own skin tone.
This could include your spirit, personality and character. Those 3 things are the ones that pull your look together.
If you buy clothes because they are trending or because your blogger best friend has them, then you will loose your identity and style. In other words, you could be a slave to fashion without you knowing.
So how do you know your personal Style ?
Every time you wear anything and feel like this is not me, then that style of clothing isn’t just a reflection of who you are. If you are happy with something, you just want to wear it all the time or every day if possible.
Fashion fades, only style remains the same…..Coco Chanel.
Fashion Personality Types & Characters of each
You love to wear understated refined look with simple and clean lines with balanced proportions. Think about Kate Middleton or Michelle Obama.
Sportive or Casual
You are all about comfortable clothes, ones that are suitable for active sports and casual life style.
You love everything very feminine, soft, unstructured and flowing clothes.
You love to wear bold lines, intense colours and striking effects.
You love imaginative, artistic and unconventional mixtures.
Now you know which style is a reflection of you. Some of us tend to be a combination of more than one of the above. If that is you, to save time and money from shopping, stick with your dominant or main style for your wardrobe basics and essentials. That will enable you to have a functional and flexible wardrobe.
Other thing you could do if you have a reflective of one or more style is this…..
If you loved tailored silhouette but you love to be creative at the same time, try pieces like statement necklaces or oversized brooches or even a coloured blazer to add that creativity to your look.
