Black is the darkest shade in the colour spectrum and they come in different shades and texture. Once upon a time, all black was always my go to. All of a sudden, I went from wearing black all the time to wearing colours. The truth is, many people tend to wear black not because they do not like to wear colours but because black is safe and easy to throw on. Other advantages of wearing black include: black gives a flattering and slimming effect on all body shapes / type, can be worn multiple times without dry cleaning or machine wash, black in this time and age can be worn to many occasions, including weddings. So, how should you wear black for Summer? Here are a few ways:
Make it Fitted
We already know that black if forgiving because it makes you look slimmer and helps hide the bit on our bodies we do not want to show off. So, a well tailored or fitted black dress is a perfect way to wear black in the Summer. A dress like this can be worn to work and then to a dinner date. A black fitted dress can take you from day to night or from brunch to drinks. Choose a good one that fits well….

Choose Light Weight Fabrics
While a very bright and colourful maxi skirt or dress is sweet and perfect for Summer, trust me, nothing compares to a black maxi skirt or dress for Summer. As black is naturally a colour that retains heat or warmth, when going for a black Summer dress or skirt, go for a light weight and airy fabric so you can keep cool in the very hot weather. I paired this light weight skirt with a monostrap top.

Lace can be described with words like lush or sexy if you like. Lace is a perfect option to go for in the Summer when you want to wear black. Not only is lace elegant, the texture looks expensive more than many fabrics. Lace is a perfect choice of black for Summer. I paired this lace skirt with a cotton cropped top.

“Sheering Up” is another way to wear black for Summer. You see, if not worn well, sheer can look tacky. If wearing sheer in the day time especially, an underwear slip is important so you can look tasteful and classy. Sheer is perfect for Summer. I wore this maxi dress in Nigeria not too long ago. See below for another sheer skirt styling. I wanted to show you a sheer dress and skirt….
As you can see, even though I was wearing sheer, if I can say so myself, I still look put together and tasteful.

No matter the season, you sure would turn heads in sequin. Sequin is another chic way to have fun with style in the Summer. I got this sequin blazer a couple of Summer ago and it is still looking really pretty in my wardrobe. Can’t wait to wear it again. I paired my sequin blazer with a disco pants and a pair of high heels finish the look.
