As classic as I am I follow trends. I follow trends because it is part of my duty to as a Stylist and Blogger to know what is in, what is trending and what is out. It is also always my pleasure to try out these trends especially the not so trendy ones.
Today, I present to you 5 unexpected trend that has taken the fashion world by storm.
Trend Number 1 ::: SNEAKERS
Sneakers in those days used to be just for leisure; walking, running errands, strolling in the park, chasing after your kids when having family time etc. However, sneakers this days is way beyond just leisure. It is now a serious fashion statement and both men and women are wearing them.
This days, you can wear your sneakers with anything; with a shift dress like I did here; with a tunic like I did here or with denim like I did here. You can also wear your sneakers with skirts, trouser suits etc. It is a fun trend and I like it a lot. Even though it is a trend it is classic enough for me to be a part of.
Trend number 2 ::: Off the Shoulder & Cold Shoulder
Another fun trend is off the shoulder. I will come back to cold shoulder in a bit. The off the shoulder trend is so hot right now. A lot of style lovers; old and young are wearing them. I never thought the trend will last this long but it is obviously here to stay.
For someone who is on a tight budget or just don’t want to pay so much to buy trendy things, I shared TIPS on how to create your own off the shoulder in the look above. To read, just click on the image of me wearing the off the shoulder blouse.
As for cold shoulder, this is not quiet off the shoulder but it bares a part of the shoulder and that is why it is called cold shoulder. I personally prefer the off the shoulder. An example is one seen HERE, HERE & HERE
Trend Number 3 ::: Choker Necklace & Layered Necklace
After the tie style scarf trend which in my humble opinion is still very classic came the choker trend. Not that chokers are new, they have been around for a long time because I remember wearing them in secondary school but they are just trending at the moment. You can wear them with basically anything. Some blouses, dresses or tops also come cut with a choker style inclusion. The trend is fun to be a part of.
Another trend is the layered necklace. They are trending and I think this one will not be going anywhere soon. The good thing about this one is that you can do away with any of the pair when you don’t want to layer up. My TIPS for buying them is to buy one with mixed metal(gold and silver) because you will get more wear out of it. If you would rather buy just a monochromatic metal, go for it.
Trend Number 4 ::: Platforms
When I thought platforms has come and gone, they are back again. That is the thing with trends, they disappear for a while and then come back again so if you are a trend lover, try create some storage for your trendy things and label them vintage for when they come back again; that way you won’t need to spend money on buying new ones and if you can afford it, why not? 🙂
I have recently seen these gorgeous T-bar ones from Gucci and I like them, I am still giving buying them a thought. If I do, I will share them in styling with you but first, I have to work for it.
So have fun rocking some platforms this season. I also wore this particular one with a red dress here.
Trend 5 ::: Lace Up Flats & Wedges (Espadrilles)
Even though these are flats, they are super sexy because they are pointy toes. This is a trend to try; for comfort and because they are easy- breezy to throw on for day and for night. See me wear them with a dress HERE
And for Wedges Espadrilles, I like the one I wore with my perfect summer dress below……
Speaking of wedges espadrilles, I have seen a lot of Bloggers and Style lovers wearing this particular esperdrilles from Chloe(sorry can’t find link, will update when I do). If you are looking for budget friendly options and the details of the one I wore above, check this POST I wrote
Other TRENDS TO TRY ::: Coloured Tassels, Pom-poms, Bag Charms etc
As we all know accessories can make or break any outfit. I absolutely love accessorising with little details like coloured tassels; on a dress here and on a bag here. I love colourful and unexpected bits to accessories. I was not surprised when my younger son said mum it looks like a monkey peeled off your banana in the bag charm above 🙂
Trends come and go, invest in them wisely and have fun wearing them. I hope you liked the post and I hope you got an insight as to what’s in and what’s to try.
I want to thank you so much for stopping by today. I am always very happy to see you stop by. Wishing you an amazing day today
Much Love, Mojisola.
