In the past couple of weeks, I received many messages than I would normally get. When I read through all these messages and met up with some of the amazing people who wrote to me, I can conclude that a lot of people want more for their lives, want to grow, want to contribute to the society and economy at large, people want to use their gifts to help others and in turn fulfill their own purpose. Today’s blog will encourage someone who is on the cross roads of whether or not to go ahead and start working on the huge burden and desires of their hearts.
First, I will not be mentioning anybody’s names in this post because the people who reach out to me trust me enough to share their pain with me. I will never share confidential information online or with anyone. I am grateful to you all for sharing your struggles and for picking my brain. Here are a few things you can do if you are not sure what to do about the thoughts of growth in your heart:
1. Realise it is Okay to be Unsure
Being at a cross roads is a good sign. It means you know something is not right and that you need to correct that thing. You know that there is a burden in your heart you need to unload and you know that you need to grow or do more depending on what is applicable to you. You know you want more out of life than the status quo. So, congratulations for recognising that something needs to change.
2. You are Not Alone
When many of us feel stuck, we always assume we are alone. We always conclude that everything and everyone is against us. We always conclude that everyone else is doing great or well except us. We always just categorically feel that our world is on a stand still and more.
Good News! I am here to tell you that you are not alone. So many people are also going through what you are going through. Many of us are not sure about things, some of us are confused, some of us are indecisive of which of our plans to work on first, some of us can’t just seem to find our way. So, know that you are not alone. One you know that you are not alone, it makes you realise that life is not just working against you.
3. It is Time For Change
Now that you know there is something you need to change and that you are not the only one who is unsure about what to do, it is time to do something.
a. Write Your Thoughts / Confusion / Uncertainty and Concerns Down.
I always encourage everyone to get themselves a journal and write down the things they are not sure about down. The more you write, the more you continue to unburden your heart and the more you write, the more you know what direction to take.
You see, I have experienced the hand of God in my life. I do not have everything I desire to have. In fact, I do not have half of the things that I want but I assure you, I have enough for my life right now and I am taking one step at a time to achieve more, not by my power but with the help of God. I want to encourage you to PRAY about those burdens in your heart. All your answers may not come to you right now BUT prayer makes you feel like you are releasing a burden to a higher power. Prayer also makes you feel at ease and makes you be able to go on. So, whether big or small round of prayers, prayer works, so pray.
c. Speak to Someone
I started out this blog saying some people contacted me and spoke to me about their challenges. Since they met with me, ALL of them have written back to me saying how helpful the tips and ideas I shared with them was. Look, in life, we have been blessed with people who can help us. If you are not sure about what to do, where to turn or what step to take next, look for someone who can help you and speak to them or pick their brain. When you speak to someone about your challenges or problems, it becomes half shared and then possibly half solved. Sharing your burden with people who may help you make you feel better. Not only that, it helps you find clarity and then solution.
4. Action Time
Yes, you have done all the above. You have received counsel and you are better now or maybe not. One of the things that has helped me personally on my own journey is “diving into the river, even though I can’t swim”. Like, I said, I do not have it all but I tell you, nothing compares to the confidence I have now and this is why I can write to encourage you, speak to you and do all the many things I do now to help as many people as I possibly can. Still I do not have it all.
I know you do not know everything. In fact, you are not sure how to go about things but did you know that the more you work on anything, the better you would be at it. A research shows that if you can spend up to 10000 hours on anything, you can be considered an expert on that “subject”. I can now consider myself an expert writer, after more than 2500blogs under my belt, two best selling books and many publications on other platforms.
Okay, if it makes you feel better, let me share this: did you know that I finished writing this particular blog in less than 1 hour?, editing included. Well, I am still writing but relatively, these days, it take me so short a time to write once I get my thoughts together. Although I can say that I have been gifted to write, I can say also that the more I continued writing, the better I have been. Not only that, I have also been blessed enough to get paid to write for businesses, corporate organisations, other blogs and so many other platforms.
So, I want to encourage you, you do not have to know everything about what you feel led to do. You just have to be willing to start doing those things irrespective or what may come you way. This is exactly what I do and the more I work on anything, the more I continue to find my way. You can do that too.
5. Don’t Suffer in Silence
I mentioned in point 3c above to speak to someone. See, when you start taking baby steps to work on the desires of your heart, it is obvious that you may not know everything. This is WHY you must reach out to people who know more than you do. Look for someone who do exactly what you want to do, ask them to mentor or coach you. I would say this though, a lot of “successful people” are always willing to help. However, if you do not ask them, you may not receive any help. Also, you may need to invest some time and money in some sort of mentoring or coaching – here, this may be what your chosen mentor or coach does for a living. So, some mentors or coaches may have to charge you for helping you or mentoring you. The question now is, what price will you pay for purpose? Don’t suffer in silence, pay the price…..
Finally, my prayer for you is that as you take little steps towards achieving your goals, the spirit of God will direct you to find your way and may you find, live and fulfill your purpose. IJN. Amen. Have an awesome week ahead.
Love Always, Mojisola.
