I know, the title does not sound delicious. Right? Although I haven’t eaten frogs before BUT from the look of it, it must taste horrible 🙂 Okay, let me get serious. Today on motivation for Monday, I want to share a little something with you that has the potential to change your thoughts and maybe life.
When we were in primary and secondary school, we learnt a little trick from our teachers for doing exams. The trick is simple and this is it: we were taught to do the easiest questions first and then come back to the most difficult ones. I believe strongly that this is to help save time so we can do most of the questions and pass well.
That theory, the one I shared above is so good that I have taught it to my children. Not only that, I also taught them to always read back in their tests and exams to see if they made mistakes be it spelling or any little thing so they could correct them. I also taught them to check their work again if they have the time so they can be sure they are happy with their work; and then they can submit and then leave the exam hall……..a lot of times, some of us hurry away from the exam hall so we can look like the most brilliant student. If you have time, check your work again, don’t hurry away. If you like, “take stock so you can see what to correct”
That theory above is a little digression from where I was going but I am sure it will help someone who takes the time to read and digest it. However, in real life, the things that TRUELY CHANGE OUR LIVES don’t come easy. They are things we have to pay a “heavy price” or make sacrifices to get. What do I mean?
Eat that frog!
Let’s start with that. This is a book title by Brian Tracy. Although I am not reviewing the book, I will mention one or two things from the book. In the book, I learnt that some of the hardest things we push away or don’t want to do are the things that truly will change our lives.
So in simple terms, frogs look ugly, I bet they do not taste delicious too BUT if that is the price we have to make, we have to EAT it. YUCK, I know. In life, we have to pay the price, we have to do the things we do not want to do so we can get the result others may not get…..
Allow me use a simple analogy, Exercise. I get asked a lot of times, “how do I stay thin”? It is because I do what others may not necessarily do. I do not feed my body with junk and I pay the price by exercising. You see, the frog there is paying the price even though I pay it offline 🙂 And hey, don’t fool your self, there are a lot of “thin people” who are NOT physically fit. We all need to exercise. There you have it!
Making TIME or paying the price to do what is difficult or what we consider difficult is where the treasure lies. If you want to earn more, you have to invest more in YOU. You have to learn more, pay for more and be more. Let me break it down further…….You may have heard the saying that success is what we become by who we become. What this means is that we do not change the situation, we change us by BECOMING MORE……self investment or self development or making sacrifices to do what others won’t do is the FROG we have to eat. It sounds easy BUT no all of us do it…….
We must all pay the price to get what we want. We must make the time to do the things we consider hard, difficult or tasking. We must pay the price to do what others won’t dare to do. We must stop procrastinating and take the bull by the horn. We must make, dedicate or commit time to do those difficult tasks, we must do them. In fact, in that book, eat that frog, the guy who wrote it taught how to DO YOUR MOST DIFFICULT TASKS first which is quiet contrary to what our teachers taught us then. If you want, you can get yours……
How do you do your most difficult task first? You have to brace yourself and just do it! Don’t put it away. Eat that frog now…..
So, in life, we must all learn to EAT THAT FROG. As ugly as it may look or if you dare eat it, as ugly as it may taste, you must crush it by chewing it and then swallow it and this is what makes it worth the while.
What is it you have being pushing away or forward? It is now time to eat that frog. Register to take that exam. Buy a book and read it, it will change your life. You want a career change or leap to the next level? What do you need to do? You know it already BUT are you ready to EAT THAT FROG? We must all pay the price, We must all push. We must all pray. We must all make the sacrifice and this is the only way, we can get the results we truly desire. If not mediocrity may be what we live by.
Now, EAT THAT FROG! JUST DO IT. MAKE TIME TO DO IT. DO IT TODAY or at least start today 🙂
Personally, I do not have any other source of strength to help me eat my frogs, I bank on my heavenly Father through Jesus Christ our Lord, He gives me strength and wisdom. As hard as it may be, I trust in him to help me. Let him help you too……
Secondly, because God does not come down from heaven to help us, He sends people to help us. If you are not sure on what direction to go in achieving your set goals, seek a mentor, seek guidance, or seek help from people who have been on the journey you want to embark on, it will make a lot of difference for you and will help you arrive where you want to be on time.
Whatever it is you do, don’t forget to do that thing that looks impossible. Everything is Possible. “Impossible is nothing“…..Mohammed Alli.
I want to thank you so much for stopping by today, for reading and for letting me be your cheerleader. I am always happy to see you stop by. If you do not take away anything from this blog, remember that the things that truly change our lives don’t come easy, we have to work for them, we have to eat that frog…….
Wishing you an awesome week.
Much Love, Mojisola.
