When I was in secondary school, precisely SS3 (final year of middle school / leaving cert year), my Physics teacher was standing next to my seat when he saw some candle wax on my notebook(exercise book). He then said, you have being studying right, burning the mid night oil? I said yes and he said, aww, that’s good, that’s good with a cheeky smile.
For those who don’t know, In Nigeria, electricity is not regular so a lot of homes use generator to get electricity / light. It is not safe to leave this on through the night because of carbon-monoxide or any kinds of accident that could happen when everyone goes to sleep, so many homes turn it off. So if you have to study in the night like I was doing and there is no light, you can do that with candle light and that was how I got candle wax on my notebook. Just wanted to clarify that for my non-Nigerian readers and the “newer” generation who may not understand that there is something as such as studying with candle light. 🙂 And also a reminder that to get what we want in life, we have to pay a price!
Back to my real post, when the class started, my teacher started teaching us heat transfer and all of a sudden, he turned to me and asked me about “matter” which he saw in my notebook. Unfortunately, I didn’t know the answer. I was disappointed I didn’t know it but I was more pained or embarrassed because my class mates laughed at me thoroughly. They had a filled day of laughter and mockery and it continued like that for a while.
While they were laughing and making mockery of me, I got home that day and was determined to learn that particular thing he asked me about matter and every other thing I needed to know about matter. Fast forward to mock exams, there was a lot of questions on matter. Because, I “failed” before, I was pushed to learn much more which made me do better. Fast forward to the main exams (leaving cert / WAEC) , I did so well, I couldn’t believe myself only because I failed before…… If I told you what happened to those ones making mockery and laughing at me you wouldn’t believe it. While I was way gone to the University, they were still back home struggling to get their O’levels. This is not my point for today, it was just by the way.
When you fail at something, you have being presented a chance or opportunity to learn more, come back to try again and do better.
My drift today is this: when you fail at something, it means you have been given the chance to try again. So what have you failed at? Your exams, test, business, relationship with friends, family or loved ones, savings and so on? What is it? What have you failed at?
I want to encourage you today to try again. Try harder, try your hardest, put in a little more effort, seek help or counsel from people who can help you and trust me, you will do better. Listen, it doesn’t matter who laughs at your downfall or failure, what matters is your willingness or ability to try again.
I was age 16 going on 17 when I learnt this life lesson but it changed my life forever and even more recently, it helped propelled my life forward. In life, we will fail at some stage except we never try but when we do, we must NEVER stay down when we fail. Never feel hurt when we are being mocked or laughed it and never forget that other people’s opinion of us should never keep us down when we fail. Rise up and move and you will find your way.
My prayer for you is that God will give you the strength to rise when you fall and that He will give you the strength you need to try again. And everyone says, Amen 🙂
Thank you so much for reading. Wishing you a great week ahead.
Please NOTE, look book will be live tomorrow!
God bless & Much Love, Mojisola.
