I do miss home because of the very many times I could wear the colourful Ankara print and the ever so sunny weather. Once the weather warms up around here, I look for every reason to wear the print and today’s look is no exception.
In case you are wondering where is home, I was born and raised in Lagos-Nigeria where the sun is like the second skin. I now live in Ireland with my husband and kids.
I have been showing some love to the Ankara print lately because I have been wearing them a lot. What’s not to love about the print? It is colourful, bright and beautiful and the best part; you can customise them to suit your style, taste and fabric. You can easily get the Ankara fabric, get a random style on the high street and get your tailor to make it for you, it is that simple.
For today’s look, I paired my Ankara bustier / skirt with a tie neck blouse and finished my look with my pointy toe brown heels and voila; my outfit of the day. Easy breezy right?
By the way, I have worn this piece here before on the blog. It was a custom made skirt with a blouse but I have never worn the blouse for some reason I can’t place my head around. Any ways, see the way I wore the skirt before below.
Excuse my face, I was un-well on the day we did this photo but hey, the STYLE MUST GO ON!
Fashion TIP today ::: How to Style the Ankara Print
The Ankara print is always very colourful and can be tricky to wear especially for people who are new to the print. For someone like me or any other person who grow up wearing Ankara, wearing the print from head to toe wouldn’t be a problem.
If you are not a print lover but want to try out the Ankara, try this simple ways……
1, Pair your print with a plain white blouse (tee shirt / shirt) like I did in both looks above. White is a neutral colour for almost everything and anything.
2, Choose any of the colours on your ankara print to match your look. For example, if you were to style an Ankara like the one I have above, you could go with either the brown dots or the neon green on the print as blouse or accessories but not both.
3, Pair your print with nude / beige shoes (heels or flats). Nude shoes tone down any colourful look or floral or print.
Motivation for Monday ::: Embrace Your Season
Look in the picture above, how beautiful is that tree behind me? To think a few months back there was no single flower on the tree and now there is so much flowers on the tree which made the tree beautiful. Just like there is a season for flowers to grow on that tree behind me, there is time for everything under heaven. When the time for that thing comes, the thing becomes beautiful.
In life, there is time for everything. It is important to know the time or the season you are in so you can avail of that season to do all and be what you want to be.
Even though, I said in the beginning of this post that I miss home because I do love the sun. And now, that I live in a place where the seasons change, I still have to do the things I have to do like going out in the Winter or working and every other thing that comes with live.
We can’t say because the season we want is not the season we have that we should then give up and not do what we have to do. We just have to learn to embrace the season we are in so we can continue to move on with live and enjoy live to the fullest no matter what.
Some of the things to do when you think the season you want is not the season you get :
1, Be thankful : In thanksgiving, we receive more. Be thankful for things that make you happy like your families health etc.
2, Give & Serve Other : When you help others when you are in trouble or facing challenges yourself, you take your eyes off your own trouble for a moment. And when the people you are helping get better or get what they want, it gives you a sense of fulfilment which then make you happy.
3, Learn : that difficult season may come with a lesson or two. Ensure to learn from it. It could be a bad investment in business you made or a friend you trusted that stabbed you in the back. Ensure to learn so you don’t make such mistakes again.
4, Enjoy the benefits of the season : I said I hated cold weather but I love layering. Even though I would rather have sunshine, I have learnt to experiment with layering in the Winter which is fun to style.
In conclusion, no matter what season you are in. Do your best to see the best out of that season by embracing and enjoying it. You deserve to be happy no matter what season you are in. Hard as it may to be happy when you are sad, pray for GRACE, it is always sufficient and it is always enough only if we ask. If you are reading this today and you are in a season you are not particularly happy with. I pray grace for you to be able to embrace the season you are in.
So tell me, what season are you in at the moment? Good, bad or both? Would love to hear from you in the comments below.
I truly hope you enjoyed my styling of the Ankara today. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

This is amazing Moji.
The use of flowers to analyse the seasons of life, it is amazing. Thank you for sharing and honestly, you are blessed. You should be a mentor or coach or a motivational speaker or something.
You look amazing by the way. Love both styling. Have a lovely week.

Such a timeless piece and so versatile! You look lovely <3
On a side note: Is this a new thing where we now have to do a small calculation in order to comment?
That seems rather tedious to have to click 'back' and do it again because for the initial calculation timed out.
I've tried to leave this comment 3 times now. I eventually just refreshed the page.
Just curious why this is the case all of a sudden?
Hi Dana,
I am so sorry to hear that. You do know that a lot of things go on behind the scene. This website was resuscitated by my web designers as it was attacked by Malware and broken into by bad guys. I had to spend so much to get it fixed. Since the site is getting busier, the spam messages was out of this world, so stressful, so malicious.
That was why we had to do that. Will have a look and once things get better, we will take that off. In the mean time, if you have to leave a comment: type in your comment, keep typing and when you finish, answer the question and that is how it works. Hope you do understand. Take care and have a good week
