The Ankara print comes in different patterns, designs, colours and texture. They are very popular in West Africa and more common amongst the Yorubas. However, it is important to know that the most popular tribes in Nigeria (igbo, hausa and yoruba) all wear the Ankara print. They are also popular amongst many other African countries but some prints are more peculiar to those countries like the Kente print which is very popular in Ghana.
Ankara is not only limited to Africans in Africa but many Africans in diaspora including Black Americans have embraced the print. The likes of Beyonce, Rihanna and Anna Wintour have been seen wearing the Ankara print.
Designers like Stella Jean have also designed many pieces using pieces that mimic the Ankara print. Many online stores like Asos also stock the ready made pieces / collection of the Ankara prints. I like the silk print by Lisa Folawiyo who is a Nigerian designer.
I recently went to Nigeria and I did some made to measure using very colourful prints. I worked in collaboration with my Tailor-Designer to create this looks and I have rocked the pieces a few times already but thought to share them with you too so you can have a taste of the goodness of the Ankara prints. You may also get your tailor to make you similar. I got two of the prints myself at Balogun market in Lagos and my tailor got the third print for me. She sells them too. Will leave her details below….
Without further ado, I present to you my beautiful and colourful Ankara print look book. To view the beautiful designs, please check out the video….enjoy!
I do hope you enjoy viewing as much as I enjoyed sharing the looks with you. I do hope you enjoyed the video too. Let me know in the comments please, which one is your favourite look? Please do share and why.
Thanks very much for stopping by and for viewing. Do stay tuned for more look books like this and do subscribe to my channel if you haven’t done so already.
All the dresses were made by DNK Designs Lagos – Nigeria. You can find her on Instagram and on Facebook. PS: I used that image as my feature picture as she made that dress too. This is NOT as AD
