My second read this year is a book called Mindset by Carol Dweck. I have learnt what kind of mindset works for growth and which one doesn’t. Coincidentally, one of my Mentees (I currently have 6 of them from different parts of the world) wrote an amazing article about the power of the mind lately…….Let me paraphrase what she wrote: “the mind is tiny, yet powerful; it manages to control everything from our emotions to thoughts to behavioural pattern to how we perceive wealth and so much more”…….
I am proud of my girl, Florence, you can read her article in full HERE. And please follow her blog.
When she sent the article to me, I read it and and I was able to link it back to the word of God: For as a man thinketh in his heart, so He is. By the way, I have now come to realise that every life principle can be found in the holy book. I teach and write from this principles because they truly work. My Friend for so many years, Debo wrote to me at 10pm after reading my book that he was proud of me for using biblical principles in it. Was happy to hear that 🙂 Thanks mate.
In Chapter 6 of Use What You Have, I focused on the power of the mind or positive thinking. Truly, the mind can make or break us. It can cause us to strive for greatness or remain dormant or stuck in a rut forever. It can lead us to great things or belittle our ability to do great things in life.
So I ask, What are you thinking? Negative or Positive. Why are you thinking what you are thinking? Will it benefit you or add to you if you keep thinking about it? If not, WHY don’t you just drop it? Lingering on things you can’t change will not take you anywhere, instead they will make you remain stagnant and sad and in fact in serious pain which could cause headache, heartache and so many other diseases that could threaten your health.
What are you thinking?
1, Ask yourself, if I let go, what would I loose or gain?
Will I loose pain or gain happiness. What matters to me the most?
2, If I stop thinking negative and focus on things that matter, what will I gain?
Think your sanity, think strength to go after your dreams, think finishing tasks you started, think doing so many great things you’ve always wanted to do.
3, Have you prayed about it?
The higher power(God) can give you rest. I have being there and have felt and enjoyed the power of prayers. If you are weary, God says come to me and I will give you rest. Will you pray? Now pray, prayer works. You can pray anywhere and at anytime, He answers anytime we call.
4, Who are you hanging out with?
Your mindset could be affected by the people you hang out with. If the people you hang out with carry negative energy, you will feel it and if they carry positive energy, you will feel it too. Let me tell you, positive energy helps a lot with positive mindset. So who are you hanging out with? Time to declutter!
5, Focus : read what it means below……..
& nbsp;
a, F: face your work and finish all you start
Having many unfinished tasks would leave you with something to always worry about. It doesn’t matter how you do it, up or down, side to side, just finish it and in your own time too. Finish that task!
b, O: organise yourself, your life and reduce clutter
Plan your day everyday, separate needs from wants, if you don’t need it, bin it or give it away etc. The lesser the clutter, the lesser the worry. Clean space makes you focus. For someone who does most of my work in my bedroom, just making my bed sleek remove distractions and keeps me focus and productive. I repeat, clean space keeps you focus!
c, C: Call those things that be not as though they were. This is FAITH!
Call it affirmation or whatever you want…but HOW does it really feel like to say to yourself…… I was born to be great. I am special. I am enough. I am going places. I am favoured by God and many other positive things you can say to yourself. Practice this daily! This practice helps you build confidence and believe in your strength and the power of your dreams.
d, U: untangle yourself from negativity, negative energy or negative vibes. This kills your zeal to do well or be productive.
Energy like; you can’t do it, someone did it before and failed, that is so hard to do, why are you starting that business? And so on….stay away from “Nay Sayers” in general. They will only add fear to you….
e, S: Stand still to hear the voice of God
We live in a busy world; everything moves so fast that we can barely find time to stand still. When you take a moment to be still, you hear God’s voice….Maya Angelou says and I quote, “when we listen in the quietude of our hearts, we hear the voice of God” How awesome is that?
As you all know I am a huge fan of Barack and Michelle Obama. In their what’s next video, they were talking about the things they will be doing in the near future and one of the things Michelle said was, “we will take time away and be still for a little bit”. You see, even the well known / famous and powerful know the importance of being still so learn to be STILL………..
While the above is not a mindset manual, it will sure help you to do better and be better. Go on and do better, it starts with the power of your mind. I pray peace for you in your mind set. Amen.
In this article I wrote HERE, I talked about HOW Being STILL made me get Clarity
Outfit of the Day ::: Red & Tan
I love classic pieces. They truly can stand the test of time. This dress, I have had for a long time and I have worn it to all occasions. I have worn it to church, to work and to meetings. The first time I wore it, I wore it to dinner with gold sandals.
For my look today, I am wearing this simple belted dress and a pair of cut out heels. To keep me warm while also adding to the classic feel of the look, I wore a long “classic” coat. The colour of the coat is gorgeous and “unpopular” and I have been gravitating towards it a lot. For accessories, I wore a matching brooch and earring set which matches the coat well and a nice contrast to the red dress.
And that is my look of the day.
Fashion TIP Today ::: Long Coats
Coats are essentials for the Winter. I love coats and at every given opportunity, I would buy a new one. For a tall woman like myself, I tend to go for long coats and that is because for my frame long coats are best for me.
If you are petite or of an average height, short coats are best for you. Choose one that hits the knee and not below the knee. Long coats on you may “drag” on your body and may make you look even shorter.
And that is my Outfit of the day, Fashion TIP today and Motivation for Monday!
I hope you are inspired by the look and I also hope you are encourage to guard your hearts and set it on positivity and can do attitude. I truly hope so.
Have fun styling your own coat. So tell me, what classics do you have in your closet? Would love to know please.

I would never have thought to put those two colors together, but they look beautiful!
Thank you Sarah, I am happy you like it .
Cheers.
You look beautiful in red and your jacket is classic and chic. Love the color combo too. I don’t have too many long coats because of my height. But I do love to wear them as the make feel so elegant 🙂
Love Monday’s motivation. Lately, I’ve felt like I need to be still and reading this today has just driven that fact home to me. It’s like the universe has been trying to tell me and I’m not listening.lol
Hope you’re having a great start to the week.

I will take you up on being still Jackie. It makes a lot of difference. It is even more effective to write down your thoughts when you are still, it gives you a leading / clarity to what you may not necessarily know or what you may have being struggling with before.
And on the look, thank you. Have a great week mama.
Cheers.
Nice coat. I love the pop of red.
