Shortly before the new year (2016), one of my set goals was to get the Moj in Touch blog done by professionals. When we redid the blog, I recently discovered I made a few blogging mistakes I could have avoided.
I also made some other blogging mistakes I could have avoided along the way so in this blog post, I will share some of them with you and in the near future, I will share more with you. Hopefully, you learn one or two things. Before I dive in, blogging mistakes (part 2) is HERE. Now let’s do this….
My Gravatar
What is Gravatar?
Gravatar is an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog. Avatar helps recognise your posts on blogs and web forums.
When I moved the Moj in Touch from a wordpress.com to Mojintouch.com, I forgot to change my URL link on my Gravatar from mojintouch.wordpress.com to mojintouch.com.
Whenever people see my profile on my Gravatar and they want to know more, they click on my old URL which I have now set to private but they do not land on my new blog. My Gravatar ends up taking them to the old URL which is now on private. That is messed up big time. What is blogging if NEW people can’t see what you blog about? I said new because your loyal readers know where to find you already.
I also noticed that although the image on my Gravatar as the definition applies shows when I comment on other people’s blogs, when they click on it, it doesn’t take them to Moj in touch, instead they have to search manually or click on my URL if I leave it when I make comments or like their posts.
Having said that, I do have loyal Moj in Touch readers who visit the blog every time we put out something new. I thank you, I appreciate you. I celebrate you. The channel to which MOST of the Moj in Touch users/readers come here is through Face Book because I do weekly advert. You do not have to. Don’t forget, we all have different goals on our journeys.
I have now set my Gravatar with my updated URL and I have also updated my profile on there. Since I have done that, I have noticed a lot more users checking out the blog, reading, connecting, commenting and engaging. This is very good.
If you do not have a Gravatar profile, ensure to create one and update as soon as anything changes in your domain, URL and more.
Sharing on Social Media
On Moj in Touch, I do have trackers where by I can check who visits the blog, where they are visiting from, what time they spent on the blog and what they are looking for and more. This is a quality control measure I use to adjust what I write about and who are my target audience.
After every post, I share on all social media channels and via that, the people who care about quality contents and reading would come over to read, some will leave comments and so on. Even though I share on all social media platform, there is just one I forget; it is the Google+.
Google is one of the biggest search engines in the world. How on earth can I forget to share on Google+ you may ask? On the WordPress publicizing tool, I am linked to share automatically on all social networks. I figured out when a new blog is shared automatically on Google+, it doesn’t include any images.
However, image is a big deal in attracting viewers and readers. I will share more about using images to attract readers/viewers in the future.
Last week when I wrote the Motivation for Monday as always featuring the bow details tube dress, I decided I wanted to draw/attract not less than 5k view on the post. You may be wondering how is that possible? Yes it is. Don’t forget, we all have different goals.
What I did was that I used basic SEO words, shared the post on Google+ manually with the image I wanted and on other social networks especially Face book that has always worked for me. During the course of the day, I saw this magazine tweeting and re-tweeting at me. See photo below………..
I decided to visit my Twitter to see what is the hype, I acknowledged them by replying and thanking them. On that day, the Moj in Touch blog got way more visitors than normal and below is a proof……….
Not sharing on Google+ was a blogging mistake I could have avoided but I now pay even more attention to all my social media channels to see what works. I now share manually and I am getting way more views than I used to get. I also discovered people spend more time because of the strategy I have now in place.
I know a lot of people say blogging is not about numbers or about views. Blogging is indeed about numbers when it comes to blogging for success. However, it is very important to work at your own pace and according to your own blogging goals. Different things will work for different people, I only shared this because I think it may help someone.
I hope you enjoyed reading this write up. Don’t forget, these are just my experience on blogging mistakes I could have avoided. We all could have common or different experiences as Bloggers. If any of the above are relevant to you, please share them with me in the comments below. I will share more blogging mistakes I could have avoided in the future.
As always, I want to thank you so much for stopping by today. Wishing you a lovely day today.
Much Love, Mojisola.
