Hi Everyone,
Welcome! Hope you are doing well. I am doing well after a long weekend.
On my last body type write up which you can read HERE. I described the hourglass woman and what works for her.
Today I’ll be talking you through the PEAR SHAPED woman and what works for her body type. Over a period of time, I will cover what works for the other body type.
The pear shaped woman would have…….
-Curvy hips and thick thighs.
-A full rear/behind/bum.
–Many would have a small burst.
-Narrow shoulders.
-A well defined waist/flat tummy.
She basically would look like a regular triangle. A typical example of a pear shaped celebrity would be Alicia Keys. Here goes a picture of the above description or a typical pear shaped woman……..
What the pear shaped woman should do to look her best / to balance her proportions.
-she should draw attention or the eye to her upper body by using accessories. You’ll see in my selection of outfits.
-she should detract or de-emphasize the lower body i.e. hip, thigh and bum by using darker tones or A line. You’ll see in my selection of outfits.
-she can also draw attention to her legs by wearing coloured shoes or shoes with some kind of details.
Here’s my selection of outfits for the pear shaped woman.
LOOK 1
A simple A line dress with a belt detail and 3/4 sleeve.
This dress has a lovely V neckline which will draw attention to her bosom. The neckline does not have to be a plunging one.
I added a brooch to draw attention to her upper body. And a pair off tall boots which fades under the hemline of the dress to draw attention to her legs. You’d notice that the dress is not clingy.
LOOK 2
An evening dress with a scooped neckline would show off her arms nicely and creates an illusion of a wider/broader shoulder. The dress has some jeweled detail on the waist area which will show off her slender waist/flat tummy. And lastly, the dress flows freely down from her waist which makes movement easy and makes her sexy.
I added a statement earrings to this look which will draw attention to the upper half of the body. A dangling earrings would natural attract light to the face.
Note : ensure to keep statement jewelry to one at a time.
I finished the look with a stripy sandals.
LOOK 3
A bustier sleeveless dress with detailed waist. This dress is perfect for the pear shaped woman. It will draw attention to her neck area taking all attention away from her heavy behind/bum and wide hips.
I added a statement necklace to the look which draws attention to her upper body since that is what we intended for the look.
Finally, a pair of sandals in the same colour which helps all attention remain on her upper body. Wearing same colour of shoes with your dress /outfit actually makes you look taller.
If you do not feel comfortable showing off your boob line, throw on a a cropped bolero.
Jennifer Lopez is a typical pear shaped woman. She wore a similar look on a scene in the film
“Maid in Manhattan”.
LOOK 4
An a line skirt styled with a cropped bow detail jacket .
The skirt is plain with no gathers so it doesn’t add unnecessary volume to her already well defined hips. The pear shaped woman should always stick to flat fronted A line skirt.
The jacket stops at the top of the hips which doesn’t add bulk to her hipline.
I added a pair of pointy toe leopard heels to finish the look. This would also draw attention to her legs taking away attention from her broad hip.
LOOK 5
A subtle style bootcut denim with cropped jacket.
The denim is plain as this will not add any extra volume to her well defined hips. The cropped jacket stops on the top of her hip. The pear shaped woman should stick with dark wash denim.
To keep attention to her upper body I added a scarf to the neck. Scarves add volume and dimension to the upper half, as the extra detail prevents on lookers focusing on the lower half of the body.
A pair of pointy toe shoes completes the look. This would also automatically elongate her legs.
The other things the Pear Shaped woman should know.
-Ankle strap shoes would break up the line of your legs which will also make them look wider and shorter. Pointy toes should be your go to.
-Avoid trying to hide the bum with long tops. It will end up drawing attention to the bum/hip.
-Avoid jersey fabrics as they will cling to your body.
