I know you must have heard that saying, “when we fail to plan, we plan to fail”. Have you heard that before? It is a popular one isn’t it? Although the saying is a popular one, a lot of us still fail because we are unintentional or deliberate about succeeding. Today, I will talk to you about why it is very important to plan so we do not fail.
“To send the message home”, I will share my “mini” fail with you in this post. So I went for NCT (MOT, depending on where you live) last Friday and unfortunately, I failed. While this is just a test for a car which can be re-done, I could have prevented it.
How do I mean?
I could have done the little things that would let me pass. For e.g, remove my rim cover, replace my back light which I knew was gone for a bit and those two things could have let me pass easily.
Well, I was busy up till Thursday at 9pm and didn’t have the time to do the said but that is no excuse because I could have done it earlier or delegated to someone else who could help me.
What am I saying?
I am saying when we fail to plan, we plan to fail. This is a popular or common saying but a lot of us still do not plan and we end of failing. While some failing can be just failing a NCT (car test) some failing can be ridiculously painful and may take time before we get on track.
Failing could be
1, failing an exam because we didn’t study or we started studying at the last minute.
2, It could also mean that we spend all we earn with the hope that we will always earn more. And when there is a need we are stuck or looking to borrow.
3, It could also mean leaving the one we are supposed to love unloved until we lose them.
4, Failing can also mean not planning the week ahead to know exactly what we want to do only to realise the week is ended and we didn’t get anything done.
And failing could mean anything……….
How Can We Plan So We Do Not Fail?
1, Everyone should have a journal or diary or to write down what they must do. I emphasis on MUST!
Must could mean something we have to do unfailingly. Should could mean something that an wait……
I know someone may say so why didn’t get your car prepared before that NCT. I could have but planned to do so on Thursday only to be caught up in a presentation till 9pm. I own up to my mess and it will never happen again 🙂
2, Write down the things you want to do in order of importance.
For e.g.
1, 9 am Doctor’s appointment.
2, 10.45am Skype call with client
3, 1.15pm launch with mum to catch up on her health. etc.
Always leave room to meet up the next appointment so you are not rushed to meet up the next one.
Also, when you know exactly what to do, you know what is yet to be done.
3, Follow Through on What You Have Planned to Do
It is one thing to plan but it is another thing to follow through. Ensure to follow through on what you have planned to do. This way you get so much done, achieve your set goals and feel inspired to do greater things.
4, Celebrate yourself and your little wins.
Someone may also say, why do I need to celebrate doing my to do list? Well, I have news for you. When you celebrate your little wins for example, passing that entry level of your professional exams, you are inspired to do much more. You are the only one who can do this for yourself, nobody else can do it for you.
Celebrate you!
And those are some of my TIPS for planning and getting goals ticked. I hope you are inspired. Remember, when you plan, you win. Thanks for reading Sam.
Cheers.
First, this is such fantastic advice. Sometime in the last year, I really buckled down on making list with priorities. It’s a system that has been absolutely amazing. I’m not only more productive, I feel less frantic and more relaxed about everything. I think it’s one of the big reasons I can now get daily posts on the blog and all my writing done (in addition to my work, where I use the same system).
Second, that outfit with the colorful skirt is one of the most amazing outfits – I want every piece of it for myself!
Thank you Sarah for reading and for the feedback. I am glad planning is working for you, keep up the good work.
Cheers.
These are great tips. Planning is key, especially in today’s society. We are always trying to do a million things all once. And this can get overwhelming and then we often loose focus. Thanks for sharing.
Hope you’re having a great week so far!
