I know you must have heard that saying that says, what we do today is what determines what we become tomorrow. YES, whatever it is you do today is what determines the outcome of your future. That sounds harsh but that is the reality of life.
Remember I wrote a blog recently called, This Time Last Year. In that blog, I shared the importance of time and that you should never waste it and WHY you must embrace your purpose-journey.
Today, I want to ask you and encourage you about what I called, “In the next 10 years”
I have had the opportunity to work within an HR and the one question that is very relevant to this post is, “Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years or 10 years” as 10 applies to this blog. That question simply is asking for,
1, What is your career plan / goal
2, Are you just looking for another job to make money
3, Are you focused and do you have a vision, for your life?
The interviewer listens carefully to what you have to say. If you sit down on the other side of the table and “blab” or murmur, this would tell the interviewer that you do not have a plan or career goal / what you want in life.
However, if you sit down on the other side of the table and say exactly what your plans or career goals are. The interviewer would look at you and may be nod or even smile because she or he would know that you have thought about where you want to be in 5 or 10 years.
Although our life plans may change depending on the opportunities we are presented BUT we must at all times be sure of what to do in the current role / position or opportunity that is in our hands.
In life, we have to be sure of exactly what we want to be so we can work at it to become it. If we don’t know, we would continue to do whatever comes our way. Don’t forget that I said, “what we do today is what determines our tomorrow”. Whatever you want to become in 5 years is what you should be working on today.
In simple terms, if you do not want to be a Make up artist in 5 years time, you do not have any business going to make up school, learning the nitty gritty of make up or investing all your time, money and resources on make up. While knowing how to apply make up like a pro is a good skill to have, you do not need to spend time, money and your resources on it.
However, if your vision / ambition is to be a reputable, an established and a well known make up artist, the best time to start learning everything about make up and investing your time, money and resources on make up artistry is NOW!
This simple principle is applicable to all areas of life and what we want to become. If you want to become something in 5 or 10 years time, now is the time to begin to work on or at it.
Every successful people in life does not just arrive on their success journey or destination in a day, they start years back before everything falls into place. Think of Oprah Winfrey, she started doing TV while holding down a college programme. She knew that was what she wanted to do or who she wanted to become so, she did it alongside her degree.
Think of Obama, he went to Harvard, he could have gotten himself any 6 figure salary job but he ended up working in public service jobs. He had the vision of going into politics and so he took the route of public service. In his life time, he has held the biggest and most honourable position because he had the vision.
The Route You Should be Taking in Life is that of Your Destination
Where are you going? Follow the Route that Leads there….
So, I ask, what do you want to be in 5 or 10 years time? Now is the time to begin to work on/at it. I have shared before that the best way to plan out your vision is to write it down. Write your vision down, preferably in your journal and keep it in a safe place where you can see it, if possible everyday as a reminder. Continue to encourage yourself to work on it and you will be it….Don’t hide those goals under the bushel, let that little light of yours shine and shine bright…….
Don’t give up. Don’t waste time and don’t rush the process. Slow and steady wins the race. Walk on your lane and you will arrive at your OWN destination. My prayer for you is that you get clarity and know your WHY so you can run with it. IJN, Amen.
I want to thank you so much for stopping by today and for reading and for letting me cheer you on. I want to encourage you to take the time to reflect on exactly where you want to be in 5 and 10 years time and begin gently and slowly working on how you want to get there. Trust me, in your stillness, you hear the inner voice, it is the voice of God. Listen and write it down, then run with it……
Don’t forget, what we do today determines what we become tomorrow. Don’t waste time and don’t give up.
Much Love, Mojisola
