Dry, cracked and un-moisturised lips don’t look great, let’s be honest. Today, I will share with you HOW to care for your lips at no cost. There are things you have in your home already that work magic on the lips. Stay with me as I share that with you quickly……..
By the way, it is important to care for your lips as much as you care for your skin. Your lips are an important part of your body!
HOW To Care For Your Lips At NO Cost
1, Brown Sugar Scrub
Add a tea spoon of sugar in the small container. Add one or two drops of olive oil in it. Mix together. Leave to stay for a couple of minutes. Using your ring finger, use the mixture to exfoliate your lips (rub back and forth to remove dryness). You can also use the mixture with a firm tooth brush (don’t scrub too hard when using a brush). When you feel like your lips is smooth, wipe it off. You should be left with a soft set of lips. Follow with any lip balm of your choice and lipstick if you choose to.
2, Petroleum Jelly + Damp Cloth
This method is another and quick way to exfoliate your lips to reveal a smooth and no flaky lips. Get some petroleum jelly, place enough amount or size on your lips, leave on for a couple of minutes to soften lips. ย Grab a damp cloth(a small firm towel is good), use the towel to scrub off any dryness on your lips. Wipe off or rinse, then follow with any lip balm of your choice. Follow with lipstick if you choose to.
Other Ways To Ensure Your Lips Are NOT Dried
You will notice that the colours of our lips differ. This is because the human lips are the only ones ย with “vermillion border”. This simply describes the natural coloration of the lips from different shades of pink to reds.
To ensure your lips are not dried, there are a few ways to do this:
1, Lip Balm: they are matte but hydrate the lips causing them not to dry out
2, Petroleum jelly: this is what I use on my own lips before applying any kinds of lipsticks especially matte ones. Matte lipsticks can make the lips dry if you keep wearing them without treating your lips first. This is just be like applying your foundation without washing your face first. Lip care is as important as skin care.
3, Coconut Oil: coconut oil is good for a whole lot of things from hair to the skin. Apply some on your lips for hydration especially in the winter time when the lips are always dry.
Humidifier
In the winter months, we shut the windows more because of the cold. However it has a disadvantage; this cause the air in the house to be dry. Dry hair can cause not only blocked nose, it causes the skin, lips and hair to dry out.
To ensure that the air in the house is not dry, especially where you spend a lot of time like the bedroom, use a humidifier. This causes the air in that space to be infused with more moisture. In turn your lips won’t suffer any dryness.
Habits to Stop & Ones to Embrace
1, Smoking
Smoking or chewing tobacco cause lips to darken and wrinkled. Smoking can also cause cancer of the lips. This can cause lesions on the lips. To get healthy lips, smoking may be one of the habits to stop.
2, Wear Lip Balm with Sunscreenย
This days, everything contains sunscreen. Use or wear lip balm with sunscreen. ย Sunburn can cause blisters, cracking and peeling of the lips so do your best to wear lip products with sunscreen especially if you are outdoor a lot.
3, Keep Hydrated
Anytime I talk about skin care, I always include that you drink loads and loads of water. To keep your lips hydrated, drink as much water as you can. This prevents dryness and cracking which in turn makes your lips look fuller and healthier.
It is recommended to drink as much glasses of water you can drink in a day.
4, Lips Licking
A lot of us do this. Once we see that our lips are dry, we start licking, thinking the lips will get moisturised by doing so. Instead of your lips to be moisturised, you will be left with dry lips which could be sore after a while. Instead of licking your lips, try:
1, drinking water for hydration as described above.
2, wear a lip balm that does not taste like candy
3, chew gum or suck on sweet. Please note, sweets and gums are not necessarily good for the teeth.ย
5, Get on Some Vitamins
Although the habit of licking the lips can cause lips to dry but the main cause of excessive lip dryness is lack of vitamins. Vitamins B & D are very essential in the body to prevent lip dryness.
To get some Vitamin D into your system naturally, you can eat fatty fish, Like tuna and salmon
To get some vitamin B into your system naturally, you can eat vegetables like spinach or kale. Other sources of Vit B are yoghourts and dairy.
6, Other Things to be Mindful of when it comes to Lip Therapy
1, Care for your teeth. You lips are protectant for your teeth. If one is affected, the other becomes affected too.
2, Don’t use dirty fingers on your lips. For example, you dip your finger into your vaseline jar or coconut oil jar to moisturise your lips, this will not only contaminate or infect your lips but will also contaminate the remaining product. So wash your hands always. This is not only application to lip care now but for general hygiene.
Those are my quick and easy HOW to care for your lips in Autumn / Winter and always really. I do hope you found them helpful. I want to thank you so much for stopping by today. Wishing you an amazing day with soft lips ๐
