To be able to accentuate your best features, you have to first understand your body/body type. Do you know yours? If you don’t. I will help you with that in this post.
As a long and lean woman myself, one of the ways I frame my silhouette is to accentuate one of my best features; my tiny waist. HOW? I wear belts. I could tell you how I accentuate my long and lean silhouette because I understand my body. When you understand yours, you can then begin to wear what works for your body/body type.
See, the body of the woman is beautiful. Having said that, it has now become a thing of deliberation/debate and competition on whose body is the sexiest or curviest. The competition and struggle is now so real and much more than it used be to be the sexiest or to have the sexiest curves or body.
In this write up, I will share with you simple ways to determine your own body type. When you know your body type, you will be more confident and would have little or no problem choosing your clothes; the ones that flatter your best features and you will also not be in the category of people who are in the struggle or the competition I mentioned above.
I personally believe that there’s nothing as such as a perfect body. Whether you are a size 8 or size 28, if you know your body type and know how to dress your body, you will be the envy of all your friends. If you ever have any worries about how you look, do not be afraid to do something about it, that could also lead to a happier you. Dealing with body confidence? The 3 key body parts to focus on when determining the body type are the shoulders, waist and hips. Once you know the accurate measurements of all of those body parts, then you can easily determine your body type.
Here’s my step by step guide on how to determine your body type
1, BODY EXAMINATION/DIAGNOSIS
You’ll need to wear as to wear as little as possible. Wearing clothes while determining your body type may mask your body and you are likely not to get the perfect picture of your curves. I highly recommend a jersey top and Leggings. If you can’t lay your hands on that, you can simply wear your panties/pants and your bra. Finally you need a full length mirror which will give you a reflection of your entire body.
a, determine where you gain weight; could be your thigh or even your tummy.
b, determine and pay attention to the curves on your upper body/torso. Try and determine the contour from your ribcage to your waist.
c, determine which part of your body is the widest/largest and which is the narrowest. Focus on the connecting curves and see which is the curviest and which is straightest.
d, determine your problematic areas: this could be your thigh or your tummy.
e, lastly, determine the most flattering part of your body: this could be your slender arms or legs.
2, BODY MEASUREMENT
You also need your full length mirror to do this and a soft tape rule.
a, measure the distance from your shoulder to shoulder using your tape rule. This will help you determine how wide/broad your shoulders are.
b, measure the narrowest/thinnest part of your waist. This can also be referred to as your natural waistline. This is usually beneath your rib cage. Do not hold your breath/suck in your tummy while doing this. Ensure to relax your tummy/stomach and back. Read the measurement by looking straight in the mirror or tilt forward a little bit. Try as much as possible not to change your posture while reading the measurement.
c, measure the widest part of your hips. The widest part of your hip should be directly on your hip bone. Ensure to close your feet together while measuring your hips. This will help you determine how narrow or wide your body is. Read the measurement without changing position by looking directly in the mirror. Try as much as possible not to change position so your measurement is accurate.
Now you have your measurements taken, the next step is for your to figure out what body type you belong to. Even though people tend to list more than 6-7 types of body type. I have narrowed the body type to 4. I think every woman should be able to determine what type of body type they belong to within these four.
You may be an apple, a pear, hourglass or a ruler.
The body type is best categorised with shapes(triangles). Let’s have a look
Image one is the the ruler woman. You have little or no curves with the measurement of your body. You have model like statistics. You have long lean legs and of course every one wants be like you.
Image two is the regular triangle which best describes the pear shaped woman. You a narrow torso or upper body and wider bottom half or wide hips. You shoulder is narrower than your hips. You store all you fats on your hips and thighs.
Image three is a single inverted triangle which best describes the apple shaped woman. You have a wider or broad shoulders and narrow or slimmer bottom half. You store all your fats on your tummy and arms.
Image four are two triangles inverted tip to tip which beat describes the hourglass woman. You have a well defined waist .i.e your waist curves in and out. Your body is proportional in both top and bottom halves. Your shoulder measures the same as your hips and your waist is very tiny. You store all your fats in your tummy, butts and thighs.
I will share full details of each body types soon focusing on what to wear and what to stay clear of.
