I was excited as the Installer of the brand new washing machine I bought knocked on the door because I haven’t done laundry for about 10 days. You know not doing laundry for 10days is long, when you have children. My thought was, thank God, I can finally get laundry out of the way before we pile on more clothes.
As excited as I was about the arrival of the washing machine, I never knew that a mere washing machine would teach me life lessons. In today’s post, I want to encourage you with these life lessons……
The old washing machine started acting up about 3 weeks ago. While my younger son was doing dishes, he brought to my knowledge that there was a leakage by the washing machine. I had a look, cleaned up the water and left that washing cycle to finish. I used the machine all through the weekend and it was fine. The next time I was going to do laundry, it turned on but failed to work so I decided it was time to buy another one….
The Life Lessons I Learnt:
Pay Attention to What Needs To Change:
As soon as I saw that the washing machine was acting up, I knew it was time to replace it. I know someone would say, what about repair? Okay, I have being using the washing machine for 8 years going on 9 years. The ideal life cycle of that brand is 7 years. This means I have used it more than the recommended life cycle.
If I had to repair it, the repairer / handyman would charge me €80.00 for call-out (for coming to my home) and would charge more for parts which could be (I don’t know) and the washing machine could break down again because it’s life cycle is up.
Life Lesson:
Pay attention to what needs to change in your life, decide to change it and do so.
Truly, until we see a need to change, we may never change! Do you need to change yourself (not change who you are now). Do you need to “better” yourself? Do you need to change your job? And hey, don’t say there are no jobs. There are. Acquire skills that would make you get the jobs that are.; Do you need to quit that abusive relationship? Do you need to stop spending carelessly? Do you need to start saving for rainy days? Do you need to change location (where you live now) to go out there and fulfil God’s purpose for your life? Do you need to quit that crap paying job to pay bills and go and acquire knowledge through education to get a better life?
What needs to change?
If you don’t change what needs to change, you would continue to waste time. For example, as soon as I knew that washing machine needed to be changed, I announced to hubby that we would need to buy a new one. It’s time was up. It needed to be changed. There was no need to keep “patching it”. Thank God for provision. We paid 495 euros for a new one; the same brand as before. At the time we bought the old one, we payed the same amount for it. The only thing is that the new one is way better than the old one even though it is the same brand.
What that taught me is that we do not have to change who we are BUT we can be a better version of ourselves. We can learn more to earn more. We can leave that abusive man or woman to go fulfil our OWN purpose. We can leave that job where the manager is all out for profit and commission for himself and launch our business with our skills and experience and so on and on.
See, I like this one from Myles Moreo: he says, “when we stop learning, we start dyeing”. What he means is, for us to be more, we have to do more. We just can’t stay where we are. We have to improve ourselves, when we do, we grow…………Instead of patching and managing what doesn’t work anymore, change it to what works. Change for the better. And this brings me to my next point which I mentioned briefly in this point……..
The NEW is Way Better (Same Brand but Better Version)
Okay, the washing machine was installed. The guy and myself tried it on and it was working perfectly. When the guy left, I looked at the washing machine in detail and noticed that the FEATURES on the new washing machine is way better than the old one. The technology on it is advanced. It has a screen display of the washing cycle; the cycles is displayed on a “dashboard” like thing and it is just more advanced, more luxurious and more modern.Well, I didn’t expect less, I paid that much for it.
Then
When I started using it. I discovered it was silent (it washed very silently). I thought it wasn’t working but I noticed it was that advanced and wasn’t making any noise even while spinning out water….
Life Lesson:
When you invest in yourself, you would get reward. No matter how small the investment you make in yourself, you would get the reward.
Does that mean every expensive thing is good. NO, it doesn’t BUT all good investments in self would yield good results. Trust me. I have done some investments in myself and I am telling you that I have reaped the rewards in more than many ways / multiple folds.
What do you need to invest in yourself today?
I am not talking about investing in a new bag or shoes or weaves or a new perfume. I am talking about a long lasting investment that would change your life or propel your life forward…
So, what do you need to invest in yourself today? Buy a book you can’t afford really? Buy a new course? Seek a mentor? Go back to school? Retake or resit that exam instead of postponing it indefinitely? Invest in good assets? Please always seek financial counsel before you invest your money in anything so you don’t loose it all. What do you need to invest in today? Do it. You will get the reward. Yes, you will.
I can tell you this, that washing machine is working well. Washing well and quicker too. Investing in self can make us function better, make us the best version of ourselves and make our lives better.
The Man Who Installed It
I am talking about the Installer of the washing machine now and the lesson to learn from him…..
I am of the school of taught that our TALENTS is the greatest GIFTS we’ve being given. When we use it, we propel our lives forward. I do not believe in being mediocre in everything. While it is good to know a little bit of everything, it is MORE IMPORTANT to learn more by spending more time in the areas we have being gifted in.
The man who installed that washing machine did it so effortlessly. I know you would say, but that is his job? YES, it is and that was why he installed it so effortlessly. Just like that Installer, your GIFTS come to you effortlessly. You do not struggle at it. When you are gifted at something, you do them quicker, better and faster and you finish with good end results.
Life Lesson:
Use your gifts. Use what you have. Your GIFTS make room for you and they bring you before great men (King, Queens, Leaders and Captains of Industries and on and on). When your gifts make room for you, it could mean make money for you in case you don’t know it.
Instead of struggling at all things, function at the things you are good at and you will be surprised at what you would gain.
By the way, the guy charged €65 for delivery and Instalment. He finished installing at about 10minutes. We got talking and he told me that was the 3rd Instalment he was doing on the day + he had 2 more to go before the day was over. You do the maths 🙂 While he may not get the kind of money every day, he would never be broke because he would always be able to use his GIFT / SKILL.
Do what you know how to do and get paid for doing so. Your GIFTS are valid. Don’t discount it. Use it to fulfil your purpose here on earth. Use it or them to propel your life forward…..
If you are NOT sure about what your gifts are or want to learn HOW to propel your life forward with your GIFTS + monetize your gifts, my Self-help / Inspirational Amazon Best Selling Book, Use What You Have can help you do so. I want to thank you so much for stopping by today, for reading and for letting me be your Cheerleader. I do hope you were inspired by these life lessons. In life, what we do with what we know is what helps us….Do something about what you’ve learnt today. Don’t waste it.
Never let the chance to do better and be better slip. Do it.
Wishing you the very best on your journey of being better
Much Love, Mojisola
