The More You Do Anything (Motivation for Monday)

If you have ever wondered what the name of this blog – Moj In Touch means, here you go…..It simply means MOJ from my name and IN TOUCH from the situation I found myself. 

So, IN TOUCH in my world simply means to be IN TOUCH with who you really are irrespective of your circumstance or status (single, married, mum, dad, unemployed, redundant or broke etc). Being in touch also means, even if your circumstance or status changes, your life goals, vision, aspirations and desires don’t have to change.

Today on motivation for Monday, I am writing to encourage on what I call, “The More You Do Anything”….

I was speaking at a Business Conference in England last weekend and as I travelled on the train back to Luton from London, the inspiration to write this blog started flowing. I grabbed my travel journal and started drafting the pointers to build on later.

See, I am the most unlikely person to be speaking at any business event. Not because I am not worthy but because my mindset wasn’t positioned like that before 2013. I shared the meaning of Moj In Touch with you for a reason which I would tell you more as I go along on this blog. Allow me take you on a quick re-cap journey, I hope you don’t mind…..

I launched this blog in March of 2014 after I was made redundant in October of 2013. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to achieve from the blog at the time but I knew I wanted to create contents to influence people. At the time, even though I wasn’t sure, I became an entirely different person because of the set-back I suffered. I started dreaming bigger than I was, I prayed harder than I did and I started getting more “revelations” through journaling than I did. My mind became broader and my vision started forming, I was determined to dream bigger, work harder and I had this drive to be very successful. I was determined that the things I want to achieve out of this blog were many and I was going to do them come what may. Yes, my circumstance changed, BUT my life goals, vision, aspirations and desires didn’t change – I was IN TOUCH with me.

Allow me cut the story short here!

Today, I can confidently say that all the things I dreamt of in March of 2014, I have now done. Guess what, I want to do more….

I have spoken at business conferences and have become a frequent Speaker on many platforms

I have written best-selling books – Use What You Have & Create the Life You Want

I help women look well and build confidence by styling them

I have created and taught digital courses and Master classes – Style Master Classes. Gifted for a Purpose. Help For Bloggers.

I mentor people – from different backgrounds / walks of life on purpose, business and more

And many more great things. Allow me stop here.

Let me show you the review I got from my last speaking engagement and we would talk about the more you do anything…

I have to clarify that I am not rubbing anything in your face or boosting. I am a story teller who loves to use my journey to inspire YOU to dream big and fulfill your purpose. Now that I have mentioned that,  let’s continue…..

See when I first started making YouTube videos, I didn’t have any experience of public speaking. Well, I did but “wishy-washy” kind – the ones I did in secondary school because I was a Prefect (head-girl), things like that…BUT I remember when I presented my dissertation in IT Carlow, the head of school of science told me something I would never forget. He said, “you were really confident and bold and your work was really good”…..

The very first sets of videos I made on YouTube were made from a very good quality camera – Canon 700D with lens 1.8-50mm. The only challenge was that I didn’t have much experience. I didn’t know how to edit, I didn’t know how to manoeuvre my camera and I didn’t speak too confidently. Speak confidently? I think this is natural when we start anything new. Am I right?

I would tell you this though that from sitting in front of that camera, making those not so good videos, editing them in a not so good way and putting them out, I now confidently call myself a “Motivational Speaker”. You don’t need a degree to do public speaking, you can build up your speaking skills – tell your story truthfully – no sugarcoating and practise – this is exactly what I have done over and over again and I think because I am gifted to encourage, that made it easier for me. You do not have to be gifted to encourage, you can still learn the art of public speaking by practising…..

So, from making those bad videos, I learnt

Very-very strong knowledge of pre and post production – knowledge of filming

Very-very-strong editing skill

Became a Powerful Encourager and Motivational Speaker who gets paid to speak

“Mahn”, those videos helped me loads – and in all areas of my journey too, especially on building and monetising my personal brand.

I won’t share the good without sharing the bad: At the time when I just started out, I had people who made fun of the name I choose for my personal brand – this is because they do not know what it meant to me. See, your vision may not be clear to others BUT don’t stop believing in them because they do not get it.

I had people who reminded me constantly of how poorly editied my videos were. They forgot that the people who make the now perfect videos started from not knowing much as well before they got to where they are now. I have been there so I know what it takes….

My Encouragement to You Today!

The More You Do Anything

Listen, I shared all those tale above to encourage you. See, the more you do anything, anything at all – be it making videos or writing or teaching or dancing or cooking or anything at all, the better you would be at it. Get that straight. Keep working on you. Keep working on your crafts and give yourself time and you will be surprised at how good you would eventually be.

Whose Voice Are You Listening To?

In this post, I shared the kind words of encouragement a Lecturer gave me in College and I also shared the opinion of the people who pointed out my not so good video quality and brand name to me. There are 2 types of people in the world – the Naysayers and the Encouragers. Don’t listen to the voice of the naysayers, listen to the encouragers and let that push and motivate you to do more. You must also BE IN TOUCH with you. Please check the meaning of that above…..

Look Back, Take Stock

One of the ways to grow is to look back on how far you have come. I do this often. I check my journey, see what is working and see what is not and make changes. Don’t just go go go and go. Purse, look back and make changes as you need to. If you need to learn more, learn more and if you need to get rid of what isn’t working, do so….

Your Future is Bright

I do not consider myself an all-knowing and neither do I consider myself a PRO. In fact, I am a learner because I want to become more. It doesn’t matter where you are now or how things may be looking now, the future is bright. I would tell you this…when I started out on this journey, I never knew anyone would look up to me and call me an “Encourager” or a “Mentor” BUT my plan was to Influence people. See, things always work out…..

If you look at how far the journey to where you want to get is, you may never get there. It’s been more than 4 years+ that I have been on my entrepreneurial journey. If I looked at how far it would take me to do the things I do now or the things I now call “achievements”, I would never have done all those things.

So, don’t look at how far the journey to become is, keep taking one step at a time and never stop believing and working. Everyone who has done well in life has had to PAY THE PRICE. 

It is Okay Not to Be Sure

I am working on a book which I am hopeful can launch by Christmas. The book is called “Ideas Don’t Come Fully Formed”. Any time an idea comes to us, the idea may not be totally clear to us. Honestly when I launched this blog, I didn’t know what I was doing. I can say now that my idea for my personal brand is still forming but the more I am working on those ideas, the more I am getting clear at them.

Listen, your ideas don’t have to be fully formed. Keep meditating and writing them down and keep working on them, little by little, just like pregnancy, you will give birth to that “child” from your idea. You don’t have to be 100% clear before you start working on your ideas, you just have to be willing till they eventually become full formed.

Once I get to a certain word-count on each blog, I stop writing and “fashion” the rest of my thoughts into another post so the post is not too long for you to read. Today, allow me stop right here. If you have not learnt anything today, ensure to go away with the mindset that if Mojisola Obazuaye can do it, I can do it too….

Your dreams, visions and goals do not have to be the same as mine BUT be IN TOUCH with YOU like I am with me and go fulfill the dreams in your heart – the ones God gave you – work on them. Remember, the more you do anything, the better you would be at it…….
