It is obvious that we live in a world of information overload where everyone and everything needs our attention. Can you help me do this or can you help me do that? Does that sound familiar? However, Research shows that an “average person” spends about 4.7 hours a day on their phone, calling, texting and doing other things. The same research shows that so many people spend at about 3.2hrs per day on social media. In this busy world of information overload and everything and everyone trying to get your attention, today, I will share with you how to STAY FOCUS!
Before I share this with you, on Wednesday, I have a help for Bloggers post for you. Following the back lash I received from “I Can Never Be a Nurse“, I have great lesson to teach you. Don’t miss it.
FOCUS
If there is one thing you can do to achieve any goals in life, it is to STAY FOCUS. Staying focus will help catapult you or propel you to success while distractions can make you live a life a mediocre.
Let me ask you, what will it mean to up skill or learn something new that can help propel your life forward, double your income or at least increase it or even give you new opportunities in life? What will it mean? To be able to do this, you need to FOCUS.
As you all know, I wrote Use What You Have last year. The only way I did this was that I stayed FOCUS. From my first draft to launching, it took 9 months. Yes, 9 months. My vision was like being pregnant a.k.a conception (getting pregnant) to delivery (having the baby) and thank God I nailed it. I was FOCUSED, no magic done, just FOCUSED.
So How Did I do That?
First, let’s just get it out that writing is not rocket science. It is not easy either BUT the more you do something, the better you will be at it. Use what you have is a self-help Inspiration / motivational book. It was easy for me to write it because I have been writing inspiration / motivation here on the blog for more than 2 years before I wrote it. What this means is that I have perfected my skills and I stayed FOCUS and that was HOW I did it.
FOCUS TIP NUMBER ONE ::: DO FEWER THINGS.
Have you heard of the saying, it is better to be world class at one thing than to be mediocre at many things. If you like, call it jack of all, master of none.
So to be able to achieve your goals / be successful, do fewer things. It could be
1, learn a foreign language or communication skills.
2, Learn Excel: this I am currently doing. My Excel was at entry level Excel at the start of the year but I am now at Intermediate level because I know I will need it for the big money coming my way 🙂
3, Learn to ride a bike
4, Learn to make dresses or bake cakes
5, Learn to do anything you think will add value to you……….
While you may say, it is possible to do all 5 above at the same time, you may just be average at them all but if you FOCUS on one thing, you will be surprised at how good you will be. Do few things and be better at it. Remember, to be perfect at anything, you have to continue to do it, be it blogging or writing or cooking or making dresses etc!
FOCUS TIP NUMBER TWO ::: TURN OFF YOUR PHONE
I said above that a research shows that an average person spends about 4.7 hrs a day on their phone. This is long in my humble opinion. Except you are working on it, you shouldn’t spend that much time on your phone.
What will it mean to switch off your phone and achieve a specific goal? I switch off my phone during the day especially when I am focused on achieving something spectacular (pray, read, write, meditate or think). It makes a lot of difference because I am less distracted. When I turn on, I return calls and messages that are important. Remember to turn off your phone and FOCUS.
FOCUS TIP NUMBER THREE ::: PUT YOURSELF FIRST
I said above that different things are looking for our attention. You get a lot of help me do this or help me do that or give me this or give me time. Listen, NO is a statement. You do not have to explain anything to anyone. If you keep attending to everybody’s needs except yours, you can never be focus to achieve anything for you.
No, I am not saying don’t help people. Please do, God rewards that. Do not let your life pass by while helping every body except you. If you have to study, study and say NO to things that will distract you at that time. Remember, you matter, put yourself first!
FOCUS TIP MUNBER FOUR ::: SET SMART GOALS
I want to go to the Gym 3 times a week. I want to safe money. I want to travel etc. Those are example of goals people like to achieve but until they are made smart, you can never achieve them.
Let your goals be written down in a way that is specific, measurable, backed up with action, let it be realistic and let it be based on specific time. This is what I mean for example: every Tuesday at 5:30 am to 6: 15 am, I will go to the Gym because it will help me keep FIT OR every week when I get paid my wages, I will save $200 because it will help me buy a house in the future.
When you set goals and know WHY you are doing those things, you are more motivated to achieve them. Remember vague goals bring about vague results!
FOCUS TIP NUMBER FIVE ::: PRESS PLAY
Faith comes by hearing…….two of the things that has truly helped me see tremendous growth in my life are:
1, I READ a lot: books, scriptures, articles and journals.
2, I LISTEN a lot: listen to God. Listen to inspirational messages / videos podcast
When you are preparing for the day, exercising or even cooking or cleaning your house. Listen to inspirational videos or podcasts. They help you build confidence, keep you focus and drive you to achieve your set goals. Not sure what to listen to, I have many motivational videos that will keep you motivated to achieve your goals. Check my YouTube Chanel.
I don’t know what you believe in but I believe in the power of God. I listen to him and I move following his direction be it in marriage, giving (time or money) and every other thing. God speaks in still small voice, it could be as simple as Visit….this could mean, visit a friend or your mum etc.
To FOCUS, press play. Listen to something sound, great, inspirational. It keeps you FOCUS. Remember what you hear everyday becomes a part of you or you eventually become!
