WHAT DO YOU WANT? ASK! (Motivation for Monday)

I needed a job and so, I applied for one. The employers liked my CV and they brought me in for an interview. The interview went well, now I have a job! This simple “analogy” I did here is simply ASKING……

When we ask, we receive, when we seek,we find and when we knock the door would be opened unto us. These words are true but a lot of times, a lot of us don’t even bother asking, seeking or knocking. Why? Today on Motivation for Monday, I ask you, what do you want?

What Does it Mean to Ask? 

To ask means to make known what we want. If we do not make known what we want, people may not know what we want. Sometimes people know we need help but may NOT offer us help so they do not make us feel belittled. For people or even institutions to know what we want, we must learn to ask.

As a Parent, I say to my children all the time to use the power of asking. I saw to them, NEVER (in capital letters) think that what you want can never be given to you. I say, don’t assume, never assume, just ask. And if you ask and you do not receive it, it is not the end of the world. “Cheeky” little children, they practice this on me all the time. “Mum you said, we should ask again even if you said no before” 🙂

Why People Don’t Bother to Ask?

We Are Afraid or Fearful:

To be fearful is to unwillingly or reluctantly fail to do something because there may be consequence. When it comes to asking, in this case, we are afraid of facing been turned down…..

A lot of us are afraid that when we ask, we would get turned down. When you do this, you are automatically slamming the door in your own face. This shouldn’t be so. Like I said above, ensure to ask first and if you get turned down, it is not the end of the world.

I want to encourage you today, if you ever get turned down when you ask for anything be it a job or a favour from someone, please ASK AGAIN. Please do, you never can tell when you would receive what you ask.

We Think We Are Not Good Enough: 

A lot of times in life, we belittle ourselves thinking we are not good enough. In life, there would always be people bigger than us, greater than us, have gone further than us in life, career, ministry or in position BUT I have come to realise that we have all been created equal and nobody is in the real sense of it, superior to the other.

The one thing I have also learnt is that, many “successful people”  or “people in the position of power” are humble. They may hold a position of power or authority but most of them have the heart of service, to give, to empower and to “pull up”.

Please never assume that you are NOT good enough. You are, you just do not know it. Ask, you are good enough and like I said above, if you ever get turned down, ask again…..

How to Ask

Know What You Want:

The first step in asking is to know what you want. What do you want? Do you know what you want?
Business loan? New job? Assistance from a friend or colleague? Favour from God? Car loan? Once you know what you want, it is time to look for the perfect way to ask.

For example, if you are looking for a job, you just do not send your CV filled with errors to your prospective employer. Read through your CV, ensure there are no errors in there and then send it through. This is asking right when it comes to a job.

Same thing is applicable to other areas. Look for a good way or time to ask. Ask nicely. Ask gracefully. Ask politely. Ask the right or correct way. Let’s not forget that nothing is our right, it is a privilege to receive when we ask.

Prayerfully Ask:

This is the time when I take you to church. You see, God loves us all and he would bless us as His children. The Scripture says, if we ask, we receive, if we seek, we find, if we knock, the door would be opened unto us. You can find this in Matthew 7 vs 7.

If you want to receive “speedily”, prayerfully ask. Prayer works magic. The thing about prayer is that, we all pray, we just do not know we do. When we say things like, “Please God” or “Oh help me God”, we are praying, we just do not know it. Let us ask prayerfully because we receive when we ask…..allow me stop here today…….

Above all, never assume you would never get what you desire or what you want. Never shut the door in your own face by your self by not asking; and if you ask and you do not receive, ask again…..
