A good denim is one of the piece I consider an essential in a functional wardrobe.
No matter what your life style is, you need a denim. Whether you go to a white collar job or you are one who goes to a job that is more laid back. i.e can dress casual to work. You even need the denim more if you are a mama/mom/mother who isย caringย for her kids at home. Everyone needs a denim, at least one.
In this post, I will ย share with you tips to follow when buying/investing in a denim that will not only last long but the one that fits well and how to care for them
TIP NUMBER ONE : INVEST IN A GOOD ONE
Even though you do not need to wash the denim all the time, it is important to buy a good pair. The good pair last longer. A quick fix denim or a cheap denim will only last for how much you paid for it.
TIP NUMBER TWO : BUY BLUE
If you are on a tight budget, it is always best to start building your denim collection with a blue pair. But Why?
1, blue is easier to manage : you do not want to have to worry about crazy LINTS on your black denim everytime you want to wear them.
For e.g I have had to remove lints from this pair every time I wore them. If your life style is busy and you are the one who care about how your look, you wouldn’t fancy a black denimย
2, the blue denim goes with everything from a tee to a classic shirt. Having said that, the black denim goes with everything too.
3, the blue denim is classic. They never go out of style. You notice that even when you can’t find any other colours of denim in stores, the blue ones are always be available.
ON THIS DAY, I DIDN’T HAVE TIME TO REMOVE LINT. See photo below…..
TIP NUMBER THREE : ELASTIN /ย STRETCH
When choosing your denim, ensure that your denim has a minimum of 2% elastin. WHY?
1, they can stretch easily.
2, your denim are meant to accentuate your frame / elongate your legs especially if they are a skinny pair. Except of course your are going for a boyfriend jeans/denim which are supposedย to be relaxed or a baggy denim which are supposedย to beย baggy.
Even a boot cut or a flared denim are supposedย to frame your body especially the TUSH/REAR/BEHIND
3, This is the one none of us wnats to experience, WEIGHT GAIN.
If you gain a little bit of weight, this things happen. You can still wear your denim only because there is elastin in them. If your denim does not have any component of elastin, they won’t stretch and unfortuantely you won’t be able to wear them if you gain weight. I am not saying Christmas is bad but you know what happens after XMAS….plus 2 inches around theย waist.
Talking aboutย Accentuatingย / lengthening the legs. I know I do not need luck with that but this is what I mean in below……..
TIP NUMBER FOUR : ONE IS ENOUGH?ย
I know what you are thinking, instead of paying that much for a denim, why can’t I spend that money on a few pairs?
1, ย you get what you pay for. That does not mean that there are good denims that are “affordable”
2, ย you can save up to buy what you want. Instead of buying 3 bad pairs, you can save up to buy one good pair or better still, wait for the sale. You can save up to buy more if one is not enough for you. ย
This article on how to shop the best of sale will help you. See it hereย
If you pay attention to all the looks I featured in this article, you’d notice that I styled every look with just one denim and I have had the same denim for a few years now except the one where I talked aboutย accentuatingย the legs.
TIP NUMBER FIVE : WHAT SIZE
This is about the most complex of all. It isn’t that complex though. Follow this rules
1, Try them before you buy them.
2, Mirror Mirror: when you try them on, look in a full length mirror and see what the mirror says to you, are you happy with it or it is just errh. If you are happy with it, go for it, if not, then don’t buy it.
If you are not happy with it in the store, you won’t be happy with it when you bring it home
3, If you buy them online, allow yourself enough time to follow steps 1 and ย 2 and if you are not happy, send them back in good andย re sellableย condition.ย
4, Ensure they conform to the body but NOT tight.
5, Ensure the waist, hips and thigh fit well.
6, If you can, try them on with heels so the length can be perfect if you need to wear heels with your denim.
The length of your denim should hit the floor but not dragging on the floor.
If you follow the above tips, you shouldn’t have any worries with your denim.
ย TIP NUMBER SIX : DON’T WASTE IT / SECOND HAND VALUE
After wearing your denim for a few years or whenver you are tired of them, you can always change the look. Do a little DIY by turning your denim into a distressed one or turn them into shorts.
I am the kind of person who doesn’t throw away a good demin. Once I find a good one, I just want to wear them everyday. I know most people do that too.
TIP NUMBER SEVEN : DON’T WASH
I know you may be thinking why should I not wash my denim? What I mean is that you necessarily do not need to wash your denim after every wear.
You can air them for freshness, you can also sponge clean any area around them you think needs cleaning. Only wash your denim if you think they need washing. They last long that way.
Other Things you need to know
1, No matter how expensive your denim may be / cost, be careful so they do not transfer unto other delicates like shirts /blouses and canvass bags. There is always an information tag on your denim that tells you all you need to know about your denim and also how to care for them.
I know the high end ones carry some information.
2, Denim will always be around. They never go out of STYLE.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you found this tips helpful. Let me know if you did. Wishing you a fantastic day.
