Trends come and go they say but can we live without them? Absolutely NOT! Today, I bring you the hottest trend for Autumn/Winter 2016. For this season, the biggest trend is velvet. Although a hard fabric to pull off, it is wearable if you know how. If you don’t know how to rock the velvet trend, this post will show you how…
Do’s & Don’ts of Velvet
I remember velvet was a big deal in the late 90’s. In fact, my sister and I wore them like our lives depended on it. It was a trend that we loved. My take and understanding of wearing trends is now different because the older I get, the minimal my style is becoming. I can now simply say that I am “chief Mrs minimal”. I do not like over the top. To me, less is more.
As far as velvet goes, On the London and Milan runways, designers like Luisa Beccaria, Emilio Pucci constellations, Costume National and Antonio Marras experimented with velvet liberally. Now, Let’s see some do’s and don’t of velvet…….
1, You do not have to wear velvet from head to toe when wearing it. This will look tacky. A statement piece is more than enough. In your own case, it could be a blazer or a pair of shoes or a dress or accessories. As you can see in the picture above, I have a selection of velvet in all known style accessories. Choose one, if you are bold, not more than two. Play it safe. Classy is best always so keep it classy.
2, Velvet get wrinkled very easily especially the real ones. Ensure your velvet is very well ironed. They look nicer when they are sleek. Wearing velvet with folds and crimps will make your velvet look cheap and drab. We don’t want that, do we?
3, Velvet is one of the hardest fabrics to pull of like I mentioned above. If you want to play it safe, go for deeper tones like Maroon, Midnight blue or black.
If you are bold, go for which ever colour you fancy. Just have fun with it.
And that is my quick post on the hottest Autumn/Winter trend for 2016. I hope you are inspired by it and I hope you will be bold enough to try it out. Have fun wearing your own velvet.
I have some velvet in my closet already and I will be bringing you some look book featuring velvet real soon. Please stay tuned. You do not have to buy a new thing when it comes to trends. Be like me and “use what you have”.
Thank you so much for stopping by today. I am always very happy to see you stop by.
