Hi Everyone,
Welcome! I hope you had a good week. I absolutely did. I will be spending the weekend with the family as always. What are you up to this weekend.
Today I am coming to you with my selection of basic items/essentials for a functional wardrobe. A wardrobe is not functional if it does not have key pieces you can mix and match. Here’s a selection of key pieces to build a functional wardrobe.
NUMBER 1: THE LBD (the little black dress)
Every wardrobe needs this one, it is very versatile and can be styled in different ways to different occasions. I did a styling on the LBD in a previous post and I also explained further on that post. Check it in the STYLING ARCHIVE. Most high street stores stock them. My choice shops would be NEXT, ZARA, H&M and DEBENHAMS.
NUMBER 2: THE CLASSIC BLUE DENIM
Can be worn in different ways. Choose the one that fits perfectly. Ensure there is not less than 2% spandex in your denim so it can hug you in the right places. Go for a dark wash. You can buy good high street ones from NEXT, ZARA, H&M etc. For high end ones try FRAME denim for super tall girls/woman, Tommy Hilfiger and J brand.
NUMBER 3: THE CLASSIC WHITE SHIRT
It is a must in a functional wardrobe. Choose a crisp and fitted one. Everyone looks good in white, it helps attract light to the face. Can be worn in different ways. You can get affordable ones at NEXT, ZARA, H&M and most high street stores. For high end ones, the list is endless. I love Alexander Mc queen, Prada etc.
NUMBER 4 : THE BASIC TEE
Can be worn casually or dressed up with heels and a blazer. I can’t live without them. Choose a breathable one with cotton and spandex. You can buy good ones at Zara, H&M and most high street stores.
NUMBER 5 : THE TRENCH COAT
The trench coat can be worn in the warmer months and can also be worn in the colder months with scarfs. Choose a classic colour, they last longer. Also the one that fits you perfectly, not tight. My choice store on the high street for trench coat would be ZARA & H&M. My high end store for trench coat would be Burberry.
NUMBER 6: THE BLAZER
The blazer is a must in every wardrobe. They can be worn in different ways. You can dress them up with a pair of heels and the casual tee. You can wear them with absolutely everything. It makes an outfit well put together and polished.
NUMBER 7: THE PENCIL SKIRT
The pencil skirt is very versatile too. Can be worn to almost all occasions from work to date nights. Choose the one that reaches at least the knee. Also the one whose material is not too shiny. When you skirt reaches the knee, it works well for all occasions. My choice store for high street for pencil skirts would be ZARA and H&M. For high end ones the list is endless. Try Micheal Kors.
NUMBER 8: THE BAG
The bag helps hold all you essentials and other personal effects. Choose one that can stand the test of time. I always recommend that you invest a little bit of money on a good quality one. The bag last longer when you buy quality. My choice store for high street for shoes would be ZARA. For high end ones that won’t break the bank, try Micheal Kors, DKNY and Philip Lim.
NUMBER 9: THE SHOES/ PUMPS
Choose a pair of heels that you can wear from day to night and also the one whose heels you can walk on. There is nothing as bad as wearing a pair of shoes you can’t walk on. Invest a little bit of money on your shoes too. My choice store for high street shoes would be ZARA. Quality is usually great as they imitate the catwalk collection of the high end fashion. For high end ones, I recommend Christian Louboutin, Prada and Jimmy Choo. The list is endless.
NUMBER 10: FLATS
They are handy for days when you do not feel like wearing heels. They are perfect for dressing down on casual Fridays and for running weekend errands. Primark/Pennys has loads for affordable ones. Other high street stores do a whole range of them. Try Jimmy Choo and other high end fashion if you want the more expensive ones.
NUMBER 11: THE SCARF
The scarf can easily transform an outfit and can make it look chic. You can also keep warm with them in the colder months. You may incorporate other accessories to your wardrobe/closet. Most high street stores have a great collection. For high end ones, I recommend Alexander Mc queen and Mattew Williamson.
NUMBER 12: SUNSHADES / SUNNIES/ SUNGLASSES
They add a cool factor to an outfit but most importantly helps protect the eyes from direct sunlight/sunshine.
