In my last post, I started the Basic Colour Theory and my look book featured both Analogous colours and Complementary colours. Please read more on that post.
Today, I decided to focus on just complementary colours.
If I have to tag the picture above, I will tag it….colours drive me crazy !
Good news !
You don’t have to feel that way any more because my step by step guide to mixing colours + look book will guide you on how to mix and wear colours confidently.
What are complementary Colours ?
They are colours that are or sit on the opposite sides of each other on the colour wheel. Since this is a fashion blog, my look today is an example of a mix of complementary colours. Yellow is directly opposite to purple on the colour wheel as shown in the picture below.
Let’s do a simple graphic illustration…….
In simple terms, every colour that sit opposite each other on the colour wheel above are complementary to each other.
For e.g Purple or violet is complementary to yellow. They are also the feature colour on my look today.
Aside the break down of complementary colours today, I also have some good news for my chocolate sisters / darker skin tone ladies who love panty hose but can’t find one that suits their skin tone.
I was wearing a skin coloured tights with this look. They are the Vendeza brand. They are focused on making tights for women of colour.
Back to the look, I used the high contrast (opposites) of the complementary colours to create a vibrant look. To prevent the look from jarring, I toned it done with nude heels and nude tights / panty hose.
This kind of vibrant look is perfect for the woman who is not afraid to stand out from the crowd. It is also perfect for brightening up for a dull winter day. In the summer, the colour mix will be more than perfect.

I am more than confident that after viewing this look book that you will be grand/confident with what complementary colours are. Sincerely, are you grand with it? If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know in the comments section below.

You’ve got legs for days! Love this look from head to toe. I would have never know you were wearing tights, I honestly didn’t think nude tights existed for darker skin tones. Or at least I couldn’t find any that look nude against my skin tone. I will definitely be checking out Vendeza 🙂

Love this post! It’s amazing how the color wheel can really make the most out your wardrobe. Although I love these colors on you, I cannot stand it when the L.A. Lakers (NBA) are wearing them. Hahaha. Another great look Mojisola! Xx
