Do you remember I told you that I attended a wedding recently when I wrote the blog on How to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger, Bolder & Sexier? I said in that post that I would share my look to the wedding with you. Better late than never right? Now, let’s check it….
My plan was not to outdo the bride on her wedding day (that would be a TABOO) BUT to stand out from the crowd. When I decided on this dress, the colour was the first thing I considered. I don’t have any colour like this in my closet. Well I did, but I sold it. Quick Tip For Fashion Bloggers: a lot of Bloggers sell what they do not want anymore to buy what they want or need. You can sell on places like Depop.
Secondly, the cut and the fabric of the dress and thirdly, the length. For a tall girl like myself, finding a dress long enough for me is a challenge. I was happy to find this one from a local stockist of “luxury goods” and this one will be in my closet for a long time.
For my look today, I wore this “show stopper”, mono-strap belted maxi dress. The dress needed no help at all because it is a statement on it’s own. And for that reason, I wore a simple tribal earrings and finished my look with my Gucci Horse bit Sandals. For make up, I kept it minimal and pulled my hair back in a bun to keep the focus on the dress and that is my quick wedding guest outfit of the day.
By the way, I disappeared once the church ceremony was over at the wedding. I couldn’t go to the reception because I had other engagements on the day too so I went home to change for the occasion…busy day for me 🙂
How to Stand Out at a Wedding
The wedding I attended was a Nigerian wedding and in Nigerian weddings, a lot of people turn up and that was why I wanted a dress that would make me stand out from the crowd.
Firstly, to stand out from the crowd, you need to choose your look/dress wisely. Recently, I saw a wedding picture where 6 ladies wore the same outfit to a wedding. You don’t want to be in that class.
Secondly, if you can, stay away from anything trending. You are likely to wear the same thing as someone else. Why? A lot of people shop from the same place. This is what is affordable to all.
Thirdly, if you can, pay a little bit more for your cloth and shop from somewhere different. I am NOT suggesting you buy what you can’t afford. I emphasise on buying what you can afford 🙂
Finally, even if you have to shop from your everyday store, you can alter your dress by “tweaking” it a little. See an example of what I mean HERE
In a Nigerian wedding where aso-ebi is the tradition, if you can pay a little bit more money for your tailor /designer to add something special to your look, it would make you stand out. For example, if you get them to use sheer or nude fabric on your blouse or mix some lace with your ankara or make your skirt with a short train instead or the regular 8-piece style. Try out something new with your aso-abi and you will be the talk of the party 🙂 The idea is to pay a little more attention to detail and you would stand out. Have fun guys 🙂
It is okay to stand out, especially if you are in business. Your look could sell your service without having to say a word. When you stand out, people would have no choice but to ask you about your look. Then you can say, I do this or that or that and here is my card. You guys, looking good is good business. Trust me, it works…..and if you are not in business, it is okay to stand out. It is okay to look good……
I want to thank you so much for stopping today. I do hope you liked the look as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you. And I hope you were inspired by the styling TIPS too.
Do take care.
Much Love, Mojisola
