For the past 12 weeks, I have attended Yoga classes (once a week) and I can say that the very first thing I noticed on my first night of taking yoga is that I slept deeply after a long warm shower. After continuing yoga, I noticed also that I built strength and learnt how to breathe. How to breathe? For a long time, I didn’t realize that I do not know how to breathe in deeply, taking yoga helped me understand breathing through practical constant practice of breathing in deeply through the nose and then out through the mouth.
Today, I will be sharing some of the importance of Yoga with you. Let’s check it out guys.
Not only has multiple studies proven that Yoga has many physical and mental benefits, if included on your lifestyle routine, it can also help increase strength, flexibility and the most important advantage is that yoga helps reduce the signs of stress, depressions and anxiety. More benefits of yoga……
1.Yoga Helps You Breathe Better
Like I said above, I didn’t know how to breathe, but I didn’t know it. Since taking yoga, I realised I can breathe in through my nose and out very calmly. The yoga breathing technique called pranayama focuses on slow down breathing and then breathing from the pit of the stomach right up to the top of the lungs.
This breathing exercise makes you feel relaxed and helps you remain calm for the day. More benefits of this yoga breathing exercise is that it helps you learn how to master being calm during emergencies or stressful situations.
2. Yoga Helps You Learn to Focus & Meditate
Research has also proven that Yoga helps you stay focus and increases the ability to mediate because your mind is calm, relaxed and peaceful for meditation. And guess what, meditation brings ease that gives us the energy to see things positively and increases friendliness and productivity.
3. Yoga Helps You Increase Energy & Strength
Yoga would help awaken the energy centres in your body. One of the postures my Yoga instructors always encourage us to practice is the cobra pose which does not only help to increase intake of more breath but gives more energy. If you are one who gets tired easily, yoga can help you build strength and energy.
4. Yoga Helps You to Be More Flexible and Improves Posture
Doing yoga daily will help you stretch and tone your body muscles. I tell you, right now, I can stretch many parts of my body I couldn’t dare to stretch before. I think I deserve some accolades for being able to do a full split 🙂
5. Yoga Helps Make You Live a Better & Happy Life
Research has shown that practicing yoga and meditation helps to boost the happiness hormones called serotonin in our system. There is also another research that shows that practicing yoga continuously helps to increase the brain’s GABA (gamm-aminibutyroc levels). This helps to boost happiness and reduce chances of depression and changes the chemistry in the brain which helps to improve your mood daily.
6. Yoga Helps Make You Stay Mindful
Been mindful means to live in the moment, been grateful for the goodness in our lives. When you practice yoga, it helps you bring your mind to the present which helps you to stay focused and happy. Been in a mindful state helps you to feel calmer, with less anxiety and stress which in turn brings a higher energy level and confidence.
7. Yoga Helps You Sleep Deeper
Stress, anxiety and many worries of life keep us awake. With the calmness that comes with yoga, you can be sure that with continue yoga practise, you would sleep better and deeply too.
Those are some importance of of practising yoga. I have really enjoyed taking yoga classes and plan to continue for a long time. The benefits I have seen and enjoyed has motivated me to keep going. If you are interested, do some more research on yoga and consider taking the classes.
So, tell me, do you take yoga or have you ever taken yoga before? Do share your experience in the comments below.
