I first wrote a shorter version of this post on Facebook as I was inspired to write last Friday. By the time it was evening, the post had “gone viral” (gathered more reaction than normal). Since many people related to the post, I thought to share the extended version of the post to inspire and encourage you dear readers as always. So, today, I will be writing to encourage you on the importance of living out your name.
As a very traditional person, I know the importance of names. So, when we were naming our kids, we made sure that we gave them meaningful names, just like our Parents did us. I am also sure that many Cultures, especially the Yoruba’s (Yoruba is a Nigerian tribe) name their Children intentionally .i.e give good names to their Children. For example, my name is Mojisola which means – born to wealth or born to be great. When I got the inspiration to write this post, I was just wondering why a lot of people have fantastic names, yet, they do not live out the names or the manifestation of their names is not seen in their lives. So, I wrote the first line and then the inspiration became bigger to write more: The question now is, if we have been named intentionally, why don’t we ask for GRACE & FAVOUR to live out our names or why don’t we try to live out names. So, if you have a good name, yet you don’t see the manifestation of your name in your life, here are a few things you can do:
FIND OUT the meaning of your name if you don’t know it.
When you know the meaning of your name, you are likely to feel motivated to want to live out the name. For example, my name is Mojisola. If I was born to be great, it is likely that I begin to wonder, how can I be great or what can I do to become great, have a good legacy and make an impact with my greatness. Prayerfully, apply this same simple principle to your own name.
DO things that would help you live out your name (Walk in your purpose)
The best way to begin to live out your name is to begin to walk in your purpose. Purpose simply is the reason WHY we are here on earth or what we have been called to do. For example, if I was called to be a Teacher and I commit to being a Teacher with all my power and might, then I am most likely to fulfill my purpose here on earth which could be a way of living out my name. It could simple be a case of Mojisola, the GREAT Teacher.
SAY things that would help you live out your name (affirm good things to yourself – the scriptures is good for this one)
Another way to live out your name is to affirm good things to yourself. Affirmations are positive thoughts and confessions we think about and then confess to ourselves. It is what you think about that you eventually become (Proverbs 23 vs 7). If you were named “born to be great” but you don’t think of or say great things about yourself or you belittle yourself, that is what you will eventually become. On the other hand, if you are not yet great but have a good name, for you to live out that name, continue to say great things to yourself and the more you say those things, the more you believe them and then, eventually you will become them, provided you put in the work that needs to be done to become who your truly want to be.
LET OTHERS Call You Your Real Name
Growing up, my grandma never called me the abbreviation of my name. So, my name is Mojisola – Moji for short. Mojisola means Born to be Great. If someone calls me Moji, they are saying. I was born. The challenge is BORN TO WHAT? When people call you, tell them how you want them to call you. This may take a little getting used to but it is doable. When people write to me with my name abbreviated, I write them back with my full name and when people address or introduce me with my name abbreviated, I address myself with my full name. The more you let people know how you want them to address you, the more they are likely to say your name correctly and the more they say your name which is a good thing, then you will be living out your name.
WEAR things that would help you live out your name
One way to be who we want to be is say good things to ourselves. Another important way to be who we want to be is to FAITH what we want to see till it comes to pass. So, to help you live out your name, dress the way you want to eventually be. So, some day, you want to be a Manager, don’t dress like a “thug” – live it out in FAITH). Dress well and live in FAITH to be who you want to be.
Finally spend everyday of your life doing things that would make you live out your name. This post unlike any other post was written from a spiritual angle and I pray as you read it, your eyes will be opened to see the importance of living out your name and grace to be able to do so. Ref: Proverbs 21 vs 1; Isiah 62 vs 2; John 15 vs 16.
I want to thank you so very much for stopping by and for reading. Here’s wishing you a GREAT week of awesomeness. Much Love, Mojisola.
