A wise one once coined an acronym for the word FOCUS as “Follow One Course Until Successful”. As simple as that acronym seem or sound, a lot of us tend to dabble into too many things at the same time. While there is nothing wrong with that, a lot of times when we do that, we tend to not give in our best while doing everything together and so we are average or do a mediocre job in all of the things we combine together. To be able to get ahead and achieve a lot, it is best to FOCUS. Today on Motivation for Monday, I am writing to encourage you to FOCUS and how to do so….
What Does it Mean to Focus?
A lot of you may know already that I just finished a post grad programme. While I was doing this programme, I got so many offers to work on different projects BUT I choose to focus on my programme. The end result of that for me was that I bagged a 2:1 as my end product of being focused.
I remember writing to “someone” who wanted me to help them in publishing their books. Here’s what I said, “it is my honour to help on this project but for now, I am focused on rounding up my programme so I can do well. Once I finish, we can get on it”. In simple words I told them to WAIT so I can FOCUS. I am glad they understood and waited. I can tell you now that we have published and launched those books. In fact the launch of the books was a great success. Thank God.
As you know already, I like to share my own story to inspire you and that was another one. So, the question now is how do you stay focused? You can stay focused by:
Doing One Thing at a Time:
Instead of doing too many things at the same time, focus on one thing at every particular time. This way, you will finish quicker with less stress and your end result is likely to be really good. See the example I gave above.
Also when you focus on just one thing at a time, you are more likely to be committed to following through. When you are doing too many things at the same time, because of overwhelm, you are likely to quit everything half way.
Plan Your Goals in Bits
If you read the blog I wrote about How I went From Unemployed to Getting My Masters, I shared an update on my first 3 goals for the year. Number one was to round up my Postgrad which I have done. Number two was to teach “Help For Bloggers” which starts in the new week and Number 3 three was to publish my second book which would be in March. As you can see from my list, I am focused on just one thing at a time, once that one is done, I move to another round of things. I also try not to make new year’s resolutions, instead I focus on what needs to be done now and create or map out a blue print to follow till I achieve those goals.
I want to encourage you to do your best to do one thing at a time because of the reasons listed above. While it may sound appealing to pack on more than we can chew, a lot of times, it doesn’t work out.
Don’t Give Up
This was what I wrote to the ladies in our private Facebook group this morning: “Don’t stop believing, hold on to your dreams! What is it you are believing God to do or to achieve? Hold on to that dream. It may not be coming forth now BUT it will NEVER tarry / fail. Remember, the fact that your time hasn’t come doesn’t mean you have failed, it simply means, your time hasn’t come. Don’t stop believing, trust your journey and hold on to your dream.
A lot of times, we may be spending a lot of time working on a goal we want to achieve, yet nothing is forth coming. For example, looking for a job and sending CV’s and no response, if we don’t give up, if we don’t stop believing and if we don’t stop trying, that job interview would eventually come or that job offer would eventually come.
Finally, always remember YOUR WHY for doing anything, this helps you keep focus. For example, if you have in mind that the reason WHY you are taking that course is to increase your economic value, this may help you stay focused. Remember your WHY always.
So, today, I say once again not to loose focus. Eventually something will happen. My prayer for you today is that God will give you the grace to focus and wait.
I want to thank you so much for stopping by and for reading. Do have a phenomenal week. Much Love, MJ
