Contouring, strobing, highlighting and “on fleek” make up are some of the words make up lovers are using lately especially on Instagram. There is even something called the Instagram brows. Do you know them?
For the sake of people who don’t know what the Instagram brows are, they are the brows you draw so thick. They are usually not natural looking, boxy and over the top brows.
Let’s face it, the face is the first part of the body people see when they meet you whether for the first time or whether you have known them before. People notice your eyes if you look into theirs and they notice your smile if you smile at them.
Since the face is that important in the body, today, I will share with you the best and the most effective ways to frame your face. And NO, my pointers will not include the Instagram brows because you really do not need them.
The brows
Tyra Banks called the brows the mother of make up. When your brows are properly drawn or when the shape is perfect, your face will be well framed. It is the brows that frames your face and nothing more. Good brows make you look youthful.
I have done all your worrying for you. To get the natural perfect brows that does not look over top. Watch it on video below….
The eyes
I love lashes. I know you do too. To frame your eyes, elongate your natural lashes with lash lengthening mascara. If you are not so blessed with long lashes. Some “falsies” will do. Even though I only wear false lashes occasionally, I will highly recommend the Adelle Whispers lashes. They are natural and lush.
Free free to try which ever lashes you fancy.
In the photo above you will notice that I have my brows done, my brow bone highlighted and my eyes has some colours + mascara but no false lashes.
You can also frame your eyes by applying some eye colours or eye shadows, by framing your brow bone and by applying shimmer on the inner corner of your eyes and cutting or accentuating the outer part of your eyes with a darker shade colour.
The Cheek (blush)
Blush gives a nice radiant glow, I absolutely love them. Even on days when I do not wear full face make up, I always remember to wear some blush. The glow blush gives is magical on your face.
Although there are different ways to apply blushes for different faces (I will share that sometimes soon), wearing a blush gives a nice glow and youthful look.
Highlighting & Contouring :
Contouring your face helps you to sculpt your check bone. It makes your check bone pops. Contour is applied on the hollow of the cheek. It makes your face look slimmer and it gives you that lean looking face.
Contours comes in different forms. There is the powder contour and there is the liquid contour kit. You can basically use the liquid contour first and then use the powder contour to set the liquid contour. Sound complicated? Check out this step by step guide on video where I shared highlighting and contouring.
This is how a “mildly” contoured face looks.
You will notice the there is a part of my face that looks like there is a shimmer on it. You will also notice that the hollow of my check looks deep.
Highlighting
While contouring repel light and make your face look slimmer. Highlighting attracts light and make your face glow.
Highlighter powder should be placed on any where you want light to hit on your face like the high point of the cheek bone, on the bridge of the nose, on the cupids bow, on the brow bone etc.
Let us see the effect of a high lighter. It attracts light in the sun and any where there is light.
You will notice that a part of my cheek looks bulged, that is the effect of a good high lighting which attracted light to my face in the sun.
Highlighting also can be done under the eye. It is done by using a shade of concealer that one or two shade lighter than your skin tone. Never use a concealar that is more than 3 shades lighter to high light under your eyes or your will look like someone else. The Picture below shows the effect of an under eye high light.
You will notice that under my eye looks lighter than the rest of my face. The idea is to cover up dark circle and brighten up tired looking face.
Lips
A gorgeous pout frames the lips and so does it frame the face. Start by ex foliating your lips and moisturising them. Apply the lip liner of your choice and then the almighty lipstick. Lipstick frames your lips nicely.
Lip gloss does the magic too. I learnt while modelling that lip gloss make smiling easier on the run way, it works. And “popping” lip gloss is sexy.
Hair
Your hair is another way to frame your face. Have you noticed that the hair style you wear determines how you look.
You can sweep your hair backwards, wear yours in fringes, wear a centre part, wear a high bun or wear your hair in which ever way you fancy to frame your face.
Wear Turtle Neck
I know you may be thinking how can I wear turtle neck when I live in a place where the sun is like the second skin ?
I am only saying that turtle neck will frame your face nicely because it covers your entire neckline and it allows all your facial features to be visible for e.g your cheek bone. It looks really sexy, don’t you think ?
You may be wondering why some one like Kim Kardashian wear those polo neck like uniform, that is it : to frame her face.
See the proof in the photo above or below….
And those are a few ways to frame your face. I would say that you really do not need to do all of this to frame your face. Feel free to do which ever one you like or the ones you are comfortable with.
By the way, I am my own make up artist, I am self taught and I do other people’s make up. You can watch more make up videos on my You tube channel. All my make up tutorials are talk through. It will look like I am holding your hands as you apply your own make up.
