It is no secret that I insist my photos are not over processed with editing and photoshop so I don’t look different to people when I meet them in real life. Thankfully, I have met so many of you who end up saying, you look same like your photos.
And because I don’t like to photoshop my photos to perfect my skin, I have dedicated time to learn and I am still learning how to take good care of my skin. Today, I bring to you how to reduce facial fine lines and wrinkles……
Even though there is this saying that change is a constant thing and the only thing that keeps changing is change. We change as we get older, our skin changes, our bodies change and our lifestyle too.
As we get older, we begin to experience some difference on our skin and especially on the face; this is because the face is the most delicate part of the body. You will notice if you have smooth or younger looking face, you seem to look younger and if you have wrinkly face, you look older, it is that simple. So how do I keep those fine lines away?
1, Know Your Skin Type
One of the things people take for granted is their skin type. They keep using products on their skin because their “besties” are using the same. If you use products that are not formulated on your skin on your skin, you will not get results. On the other hand if you use products that are formulated for your skin on your skin, you get results like smoothening effect, balance in texture and oil balance and more like reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. So know your skin type so you can use products that will help your skin look smoother. I have a combination skin. What about you, do you know yours?
You could have……
Dry skin: you entire skin is very dry and all the time too.
Normal to dry skin or: some part of you skin is normal while some is dry
Combination skin: You could have some part of your skin normal (matte) and other parts oily, majorly the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin
Combination to oil skin: you have some almost oily part and some very oily part of your skin
Oily skin: your entire face is oily.
Always use products formulated for skin skin to help you even out, balance and reduce fine lines. Do I need moisturiser if my skin is oily? Yes you do. Use formulations for your skin tone always. See or visit your beauty corner or skin care specialist for more advise. Ask me your questions below. I respond to everyone.
2, Make Moisture Your Friend
The girls/ladies of this generation are smart, I love them. Last Sunday, I picked up two college girls in my car and they were both wearing very big totes. Inside their totes, they had big bottles of water and they were sipping on it from time to time. That is a wise move.In case you are wondering, those ladies I picked up in my car had no make up on and their skin looked flawless.
There are two kinds of moisture you need to reduce fine lines and facial wrinkles on your face
1, Drink loads and loads of water daily: It is being recommended to drink up to 8 glasses a day. I know this is hard especially if you are like me and you wee a lot. It is very good though because you will see the result on your skin. All those fines lines will be far from you.
2, Moisturise your Skin: Just like you moisturise your skin on the inside by drinking water, it is also very important to moisturise the actual skin. This takes me back to my first point; use products formulated for your skin tone always and this is how you can get results. Moisturise in the morning and also in the night.
3, Exfoliate the Skin
When you have a skin that is clogged up, you won’t have that smoothening effect or youthful looking skin. This is because if your skin is clogged up, products won’t penetrate the skin properly. It is like wanting to drink a glass of water and your mouth is not opened. The water can not get into your mouth unless you open your mouth.
To allow deep penetration of your moisturiser unto your skin, exfoliate your skin; this will not only let moisture penetrate your skin well, it will also reveal a very youthful skin. Exfoliate every other day, not everyday; twice a week is enough.
4, Eat Well
It is when your skin is old looking that you have fine lines and wrinkles. When your skin looks youthful, you look younger and with no fine line and wrinkles. Eat good food and everything in moderation. For people who know me, they know I am always intentional about what I put in my mouth, that’s just me. However, I have come to realise what you put in your mouth has its effect on your skin.
I love cashew nuts, they are a good source of healthy fat for the body but I figured it breaks me out which is bad for my business. Break out can make your skin look unkept if I am being honest. For now, I have taken a break from cashew nuts.
So eat healthy so your skin can look youthful. Fruits and Veg is always a good idea. Instead of coffee, try green tea; instead of Soda, try freshly squeezed juice and instead of juice, try water and so on and so forth. Like I said, everything in moderation. And always be mindful that there comes a time in a woman’s / man’s life when McDonald’s shouldn’t appeal anymore 🙂 #justsaying
5, Exercise
In this internet age, you see all kinds memes. I recently saw a side by side picture of two 74year old women. One was as fit as whatever you can compare her with and the other was sitted on a wheel chair looking out the window. Although both are alive, one was more free and very energetic with good skin too and that is the one that exercises. Whether we like it or not, our lifestyle determines our outlook.
The effect of your lifestyle shows on your skin. When you exercise, you sweat; sweat is body waste and you may not get the chance to discharge it if you don’t exercise at all. The good news is when you exercise, you feel thirsty and you long for water; when you drink water, you feel replenished and you see the effect on your skin so it all works together; exercising and drinking water.
Honestly, you do not have to exercise daily or for 4 hours a day. Draw a routine that can help you get your exercise in. A short walk is better than none or indoor exercise here and there is good enough. Just get your exercise in. I know you will ask me if I exercise? YES, I do.
6, Sleep
This step here is about the most important one if not the most important one. For you to prevent or reduce facial fine lines or wrinkles, you must get some sleep. It is been recommended to sleep up to 8hours every night; while that may not be possible if you lead a very busy life style but do your best to get some sleep and always too.
The most obvious consequence for not sleeping well is those big under eye circles and bags under the eyes. So please sleep.
What Moisturisers Would You Recommend?
I would always recommend that you use one formulated for your skin tone; so please try and figure out what your skin tone is; list above. I personally do not jump from products to products. Once I find something that works, I stick with it. Why? Because it works.
I have used the Mary Kay moisturisers and I can swear by it. It locks in moisture and keeps my skin hydrated for longer. When I use it in the night, my skin feels super gorgeous in the morning.
I have also used the Clinique moisturisers and it is as good as the Mary Kay one. This is the one I currently use and I have used it continuously for the past 7months. I did a full review of it, how I use it and the full effect of it on my skin HERE.
No matter what you use on your skin, follow the 3 step system which is to wash, tone and moisturise. Exfoliate every other day.
Also when you start using a new product, give it time so it can work and then you see the results. It takes a minimum of 6 weeks for you to see the effect of any products on your skin so be patient.
Those are some of the easy ways to help keep fine lines and wrinkles away. Do they work? They do especially drinking loads and loads of water even if you can’t afford the very best moisturisers.
I want to thank you so much for taking the time to read. I do appreciate your time and I am always supper happy to see you. Let me know in the comments please, did you find these tips helpful?
Wishing you an amazing skin with less lines and wrinkles 🙂
